To the good customers of Humming Meadow:
It has come to my attention that a movement is afoot and that allegations have been made.
The charges against me are as follows: I have kept my father, Poppy, hunched over the wax pot through the dark turn of the year. That he pours most of the candles we sell. That he builds the hives, models the merch, and is paid mostly in hugs from his grandchildren, beers at the local pub, and honey straight from the hives.
That I, his son, am the corporate oppressor.
I have reviewed the charges.
They are accurate.
So I surrender.
Through Monday, November 9, use code FREEPOPPY for 15% off a single order. Every candle order ships with a FREE POPPY sticker so you can carry the cause to your fridge, your truck, your tailgate, or toolbox.
Free Poppy.

We just restocked our most popular High Wood Flannel sizes in both men's and women's!
The only sizes currently missing are XS women's and 3XL men's because both are back ordered with Vermont Flannel.
Yes. Bring the light inside.

The Western Larch (although some folks around here call them tamarack) turn a bright yellow-gold in October-November before losing all their needles. A very unusual conifer.

November.
Noggins.
Nuts.
Our newest discounted bundle is the "Nut and Noggin" bundle: a USA-made cotton cap with brass buckle, a beeswax acorn candle, and a squirrel candle.
You can keep your noggin cozy and come home to a well lit nest.😌

You people do not understand how rewarding these posts are for our entire family. Thank you. 🥹
I received another Humming Meadow package. This time I got a berry mug bundle and a candle.
The goldfinch sticker has joined the bay window bird viewing room with the cardinal and the bluebird.
There is a bonus sticker of a mouse with a Berry. It fits right in with an ancient poster that has been hanging above the stairs. My grandfather got it for my grandmother because of her love and compassion for mice. (She used to slip saltines into the glovebox for them.)

There's a rustle in the brambles, a whisper in the wind, a candle burning in the window.
It's a special night.
All Hallows' Eve. Samhain. Halloween.
But it's more than pumpkins and bats, trick-or-treaters, or the sinister things some would have you believe.
It's a night when the veil between the worlds is said to grow thin, when the spirits of those who came before us may wander among the living once more.
A night to remember our ancestors, to honor those we've lost, to light a candle and leave a place at the table for those who can no longer sit beside us.
And for those of us who are stewards of the land in the Northern hemisphere, who live by the rhythm of the seasons, it marks something just as meaningful.
The last harvests are mostly gathered, the earth is preparing for its winter rest, and the darker half of the year begins. The frantic growth of summer gives way to stillness. What has lived must eventually return to the soil, nourishing what is yet to come.
There is no life without death, no spring without winter, no beginning without an ending.
Tonight is a reminder that we are part of that ancient cycle, not separate from it. That the land remembers, that our roots run deeper than we know, and that even in the darkest season, life is quietly waiting.
So light a candle. Remember your dead. Listen to the wind moving through the bare branches. Welcome the darkness, not as something to fear, but as something that belongs.
The old year is dying. The earth is resting. And somewhere between the brambles, the call of the crows and the lingering shadows, there's some comfort waiting.
Happy Halloween🎃
Happy Halloween Eve!

New in the Humming Meadow: a Diana fritillary moth and a wooly bear caterpillar drawn by our friend @SeraphimPrints and always printed in the USA.
We throw a random big sticker in with every order but you can request one or even order extra on our store page.
We started Humming Meadow a year ago this month. It seems only right to end October with a throwback to some of our original offerings.
Sure is wild to think about how much has changed since then!

A neighbor gave us this tall, skinny pumpkin and I immediately knew what I wanted to try carving on it: this lovely artwork from @SeraphimPrints of a taper candle and holder. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! 🕯️
