It’s true, people definitely did this. I’ve found (and mention this every year when prospecting) that a player’s peak is more important than how he finished his college career. It really comes through in the data.
Yards per route run leaders since the start of 2025 (minimum 300 routes), per Next Gen Stats data:
1. Jaxon Smith-Njigba (3.72)
2. Puka Nacua (3.53)
3. Luther Burden when Caleb Williams is his quarterback (2.86)
4. Zay Flowers (2.81)
5. Christian Watson (2.66)

Post-Ladd McConkey injury, KeAndre Lambert-Smith led the Chargers in target share (30%) and route share (89%) in Week 6. Quentin Johnston had a 10% target share, catching 1 of his 3 targets for 57 yards.
