Seems relevant these days: in 1942 a citizen defence force was established on our west coast to guard against the threat of a Japanese raid on #Canadian territory. The Pacific Coast Militia Rangers served until the end of the war and led to the current day Canadian Rangers 1/

An Salvadoran military operation in Haiti seems a sure bet, very soon, the other question will be the extent of US support - Intel? Fire support? Air transport? Boots on the ground? Will the October Surprise be a US backed attack in Haitian gangs?
Chartered cargo flights from El Salvador continue to arrive in Port-au-Prince. At least one yesterday and one today. 450 Salvadoran troops have reportedly already arrived and the expectation is at least a 1,000 may ultimately deploy. On paper, they are part of the GSF. But seems pretty clear Bukele and the GSF aren't exactly on the same page. Haitian government still hasn't said anything.

Ilopango, San Salvador Int'l Airport, Florida, Guantanamo, San Isidro, DR, all locations from which such an operation could be launched.

🇨🇦 ON THIS DAY IN CANADIAN HISTORY October 26, 1813 — The Battle of Châteauguay A small force, a wooded battlefield, and a confrontation that helped shape the course of the War of 1812. On this day in 1813, American forces advancing toward Montreal encountered Canadian defenders along the Châteauguay River in Lower Canada, near present-day Allan’s Corners, Quebec. The American campaign, commanded in part by Major General Wade Hampton, sought to capture Montreal and disrupt British supply lines between Upper and Lower Canada. Opposing the advance was a smaller force under Lieutenant-Colonel Charles-Michel de Salaberry, consisting of French-Canadian Voltigeurs, Canadian Fencibles, local militia, and Indigenous allies, including Mohawk, Huron-Wendat and Abenaki warriors. Using the surrounding forests, defensive barricades made from fallen trees, and carefully positioned troops, the defenders resisted the American advance. One particularly memorable tactic involved sounding bugles and calling out from different positions in the woods, creating the impression that the defending force was considerably larger than it actually was. After several hours of fighting, Hampton ordered his troops to withdraw. The American advance toward Montreal was halted, contributing to the failure of the wider campaign. The Battle of Châteauguay became an important chapter in the history of the War of 1812 and is now commemorated at the Battle of the Châteauguay National Historic Site. More than two centuries later, it remains a reminder of the complex military history of early Canada and the contributions of the many communities involved. #CanadianHistory #WarOf1812 #Chateauguay

There's no indication that the aircraft has been deployed to Haiti but the Fuerza Aérea Salvadoreña is the last military operator of the UH-1M gunship which they refer to as "Cazador" (hunter). Several were obtained from the US during the Salvadoran civil war, one remains active

Reportedly a 2023 photo of UH-1M #228, the last operational of the type in the Fuerza Aérea Salvadoreña, seen here with M158 unguided rocket launcher, 7.62mm minigun and finished in appropriately sinister black scheme with tiger markings

President Bukele may indeed believe that God is on his side but this sounds like a leader who has confidence not only in his fighting men, but in the assistance, both intel and kinetic, that allies may be providing...🇸🇻🇺🇸
The Escuadrón de Helicópteros of the Fuerza Aérea Salvadoreña have the capability to deliver a small SOF team to rescue the kidnapped personnel - assuming good intel. It would be very high risk but the UH-1/214/MD530 force has experienced crews that could do this. 1/

And Salvadorian special forces with decades of experience in their civil war and more recent anti-gang operations, are equally capable of such a relatively small scale rescue mission. Any support from US or private contractor elements would be welcome, no doubt 2/

On a technical note it does not appear that the Salvadorian vehicles were delivered with remote weapon station, maybe some were?
