What a privilege it is to be able to run, afford a gym membership, buy healthy food, pay your bills, walk on your own legs, see with your own eyes, think clearly, work every day, and push your body to become stronger. Never take these blessings for granted.

If physician associates are able to train in "medicine" and are magically able to see patients independently in two years - why does it take doctors 5 to 6 years medical degree and 10 years postgraduate training before achieving independence? We have to decide whether we want a safe healthcare service delivered by fully trained doctors or go back to a free for all where anyone can practice medicine with a cursory level of knowledge/ training and do away with medical degrees / medical training It's like living in a parallel universe where simultaneously you need over 15 years of training to be considered safe as a doctor but anyone else can do a simple course and get stuck in.

🚨 Online traffic to the entire European far-right collapsing after a successful Ukrainian attack on a Russian data centre feels like quite a big story.
If confirmed, this is telling: Russian data centres get hit, and online activity around AfD suddenly plummets. 📉 So much talk about German patriotism… then the connection from Russia goes down. 🤔🇷🇺

Okay, I think that we all need to admit that the US has passed the point of no return. When an execution by firing squad is going to be livestreamed, you know you're no longer living in a civilized nation.

Telling an eighty-year-old woman to "check the portal" for serious biopsy results is cruelty disguised as digital efficiency. My 82-year-old aunt had a lung biopsy done two weeks ago. The doctor told her they’d have the pathology report ready within five business days. Friday afternoon rolled around. No call. She dialed the clinic’s main desk, her voice shaking with anxiety. The receptionist cut her off before she could finish explaining: “Doctor doesn’t give results over the phone anymore. All lab findings are automatically released to your MyChart patient portal.” My aunt said, “Sweetheart, I don’t have a computer. I have a landline on my kitchen wall. Can the doctor just tell me if I have cancer?” The receptionist sighed into the receiver: “It’s hospital network policy. We can’t bypass the portal. You’ll have to have a family member create an account and view the file.” My aunt spent an entire seventy-two-hour weekend sitting in her recliner, gripping her reading glasses, convinced she was dying. I drove out to her house on Monday morning, set up a profile on my laptop, and pulled up the records. The result was benign. The pathology report had been uploaded four days earlier. A doctor spent three minutes clicking an upload button, and an elderly woman endured four days of sheer psychological terror because the hospital decided a phone call was too expensive. Since when did delivering medical news become a self-service task?

HE PROTECTED 54,000 DOCTORS. THE @NHS PROTECTED ITSELF. In January 2014, Dr Chris Day (@drcmday) was working overnight in the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. Two locum doctors didn't show up. The unit was running at double the patient load the national guidelines allow. He raised the alarm. He reported unsafe staffing. He linked the situation to two patient deaths. That's what the NHS calls a whistleblower. What followed was eight years of litigation, a legal battle all the way to the Court of Appeal, and over £700,000 of public money spent by Health Education England (@NHSE_WTE) and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (@LG_NHS) trying to stop his case being heard at all. Here's the really elegant bit. HEE's opening legal argument wasn't that they'd done nothing wrong. It was that whistleblowing law simply didn't apply to them, because they didn't directly employ junior doctors. They were just the organisation that controlled the career progression of every single one of England's 54,000 junior doctors. Totally different thing. Dr Day fought that argument to the Court of Appeal and won. The law was clarified. All 54,000 junior doctors below consultant grade in England now have statutory whistleblowing protection. One man, crowdfunding against three QCs, changed employment law for an entire profession. No formal apology from the NHS. No reinstatement. No path back to a consultant career. He has worked as a locum A&E doctor ever since, doing overnight shifts while his opponents collected salaries, pensions, and the occasional glowing tribute to NHS transparency. During the 2022 tribunal hearing, the communications director at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust deleted up to 90,000 emails. The director whose entire NHS email archive was also deleted during live litigation happened to be the instructing legal client in the case. The tribunal described the conduct as extraordinary. Nobody was prosecuted. The trust issued a partial apology about a press release. The system did exactly what it always does. It absorbed the cost, deflected accountability, and waited for the man it destroyed to run out of money or energy. He hasn't. In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

The RNLI are and should be treated as emergency services. Any threats to RNLI crew, interfering with their activities should be treated as a criminal offence under the Emergency Workers (Obstruction) Act 2006.
RNLI closes Portsmouth lifeboat station after huge anti-migrant protests The far right threatened & intimidated RNLI volunteers & is putting lives at risk. It’s a disgrace that people who risk their lives to save others are being treated like this. independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…

Congrats to the people of Portsmouth who don't have any protection if they get into trouble at sea
🚨 NEW: RNLI has now temporarily closed its Portsmouth station after staff and volunteers faced "physical abuse" and doxing over bringing migrants ashore

Crazy to think that in 2026 we've had: • Anthropic's head of safeguards quit, warning "the world is in peril" (Feb) • OpenAI dissolved its own mission alignment team (Feb) • Unrestricted AI usage for the Pentagon (causing several researchers to quit) • Several AI models escaping sandbox testing (Since ~Q2) • 1,100+ frontier-lab employees signing a letter begging the government to pace AI development (Jul-Aug) And today yet another top researcher saying this.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
