We’re closely monitoring flash flooding at S. Maple Street, College Street, Park Avenue, and Franklin Road.
At this time, water appears to be receding, and our storm drains are catching up after nearly 2 inches of rainfall fell in the past 60 minutes.
There have been no major impacts to businesses on or around the square. Only one business experienced minor flooding at the front door and successfully used sandbags to prevent further issues.
A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect. If you encounter a flooded roadway, do not attempt to drive through it. Turn around and find an alternate route.
This photo was taken at the intersection of S. Maple Street and Gay Street about 25 minutes ago. The roadway is now passable.
The 400 block of Park Avenue is still closed at the moment due to flooding.

Strong work! MJPD was proud to assist on the day this dangerous suspect’s violent crime spree came to an end, with our officers moving quickly to intercept, stop, and apprehend him.
Moments after he pointed a gun at a mother with her child and stole their vehicle, our Advanced Response Communications Center (ARCC) immediately accessed #MJGuardianShield license plate reader technology to help locate the vehicle.
When a license plate reader alert showed the suspect traveling toward Mt. Juliet, our officers quickly coordinated, got into position, pursued, and safely deployed spike systems to stop the vehicle and take the armed suspect into custody.
This is exactly why teamwork, quick communication, and responsible use of technology matter. A violent suspect connected to repeated violent crimes was stopped before he could continue causing harm.
We are grateful for the strong partnership with Lebanon Police and proud of the courage, professionalism, and quick action shown by our officers, ARCC operators, and all involved. Moments like this reflect the dedication of those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect others and keep our communities safe.
A Wilson County Grand Jury has indicted Lorenzo Weir in connection with the robbery of the 7-Eleven on South Cumberland Street, which took place just before midnight on April 10, 2026.
Weir, 33, is accused of entering the store armed with a handgun and robbing the clerk.
During the investigation into the armed robbery of the Sparta Pike Smoke Shop, detectives uncovered key evidence linking Weir as the primary suspect in the 7-Eleven robbery.
Following the grand jury's decision, Weir now faces two additional counts of aggravated robbery and one count of theft of property, on top of the charges he was already facing.
This outcome reflects the outstanding work and persistence of our detectives!

UPDATE (6:30 a.m.) - ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED: xitter.cf/lebanonpd/status/20657…
ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED.
Overnight, the Lebanon Police Department received information from the Memphis Police Department that our attempted armed robbery suspect may have been taken into custody.
The Memphis Police Department’s license plate reader system alerted officers to the presence of the white Infiniti within their jurisdiction. When officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit.
After the pursuit ended, Memphis Police officers took 44-year-old Anthony Tilghman, of North Carolina, into custody.
A search of the vehicle uncovered additional evidence believed to connect Tilghman to the attempted armed robbery at Winfrey’s Jewelry.
In addition to charges related to the pursuit in Memphis, Tilghman will face charges in Lebanon for attempted armed robbery, four counts of aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
We appreciate the diligence of our detectives, who quickly identified the white Infiniti and its license plate number from surveillance footage and promptly utilized our SafeNet license plate reader system.
We are also grateful for the strong partnership and assistance provided by the Memphis Police Department.
Their efforts, combined with the outstanding work of our department and the effective use of license plate reader technology, helped bring this case to a successful resolution.
