What allows Healey, this Nosferatu put in charge of the bone-bag carcass of the English economy, to do this with such an arrogant air of impunity, is muscular unionism – uncontested, indeed colluded-in by an SNP-led Scottish Government. The McCrone report of 1974 took a different approach entirely to where the "top slice" of the North Sea windfall should go. “The first priority would be to spend the surpluses as far as possible in developing Scotland’s domestic economy and providing a modern infrastructure. The following paragraphs suggest how this might be done.” Yes, McCrone's following paragraphs did indeed show how it might be done, and today illustrate how none of it was. Instead, England wildly spent it on itself; Docklands, the M25 ring road, the Queen Elizabeth line; the updating of the North London line, Crossrail, the Dartford Bridge, all the spending required to create the world centre of financial capital that was to become the City of London with what they called (and what subsequently became economically ruinous) the "Big Bang". What stops those who would lead us from resisting this rape of our country, quadrupled down-on with the extraction of our renewable resources as fast as they can get the mega-pylons build over the fine landscape of our sovereign territory? Here's what: the failure to recognise the purely extractive nature of the union; an annexation and colonisation which issued from a falsified "voluntary partnership". Why? For fear of upsetting the English nation which, after 3 centuries of colonialism has upset us to the point of near national extinction. We need much, much better than this from our nationalist politicians. Read the full McCrone report, annotated with comments, here: liberation.scot/static-conte…

Christophe Dorigné-Thomson explores the evidence for the "voluntary union" in 1707, claimed by the United Kingdom as its legitimate origin. In the diplomatic records of France, he uncovers the precise opposite; among much else, this, for instance: "19 February 1710, recorded in the French Foreign Minister's confidential journal: the Dutch Republic agreed to contractually bind itself "à maintenir l’union de l’Angleterre avec l’Écosse, et à fournir le même secours réciproque de vingt mille hommes et trente vaisseaux de guerre" (to maintain the union of England with Scotland, and to furnish the same reciprocal assistance of twenty thousand men and thirty warships). A foreign power contracted by treaty to suppress the Scottish population by armed force if they rose to dissolve the incorporation. Consensual unions do not require an occupying foreign mercenary garrison to survive."

You scratch your head. A dozen years on from the currency farrago of 2014, an exposing gaffe for which YES took a severe Britstate beating, and flying squarely in the face of all expert advice on the indispensability of a central bank issuing its own currency, John Swinney arrives at this. You might weep for the timidity of it: “And always keep a-hold of Nurse For fear of finding something worse.” – Hilaire Belloc’s cautionary tale: “Jim, Who ran away from his Nurse, and was eaten by a Lion”. Even when there IS nothing worse. Or more foolish. Or more referendum-sabotaging. Although, of course, you might ask 'what referendum?' It's belt and braces scuppering of the scuppered.
Many are wondering if John Swinney is deliberately trying to scupper Scotland’s chances of becoming independent after insisting Scotland will continue to use the English pound, widely seen as the main reason Scotland lost the last referendum. #ScottishCurrency #JohnSwinney #SNP

Recognise this, fellow Scots - Welsh, Irish? This is why we must go beyond the independence of a state to the liberation of a people, a nation and our own minds.
They taught the colonized child to see the world through the colonizer’s eyes. And then, when the colonized child grew up and looked through those eyes and saw themselves... They saw what the colonizer saw. "Backward." "Primitive." "In need of development." Behind on a timeline whose destination was someone else’s present. This is the wound that outlasts the empire. The guns go. The administrators go. The flags come down. But the curriculum stays in the mind. The habit of measuring yourself against a standard that was designed without you. The reflex of looking at your own culture and asking, involuntarily, what the colonizer would think of it. The deep, persistent, half-conscious belief that modernity is something you are still catching up to rather than something you were always building in your own way. This is why independence was necessary but not sufficient. You can remove the occupier without removing the occupation of the mind. Decolonizing the curriculum was not a symbolic act. It was the harder and more fundamental liberation. The liberation of the internal landscape. The recovery of the right to know what you knew before they told you it didn’t count.

Professor John Robertson @ProfJWR has blocked us. We don't understand why. For our part, we have used his work on media bias in the 2014 'referendum' to illustrate an important facet abuse of colonial control of Scotland; the same democratic abuse that can be witnessed in the colonies of France, New Caledonia and French Polynesia, among many others.

There Is No Exit. There Is Only Restoration, and a Return. The fastest way forward isn't the one we've been sold. Let me start with the word "Scotexit." I understand why people use it. It's punchy. It conveys urgency. But it contains a hidden concession that costs us a lot before we've started. "Exit" implies we entered. It implies the supposed union is a door we walked through and can walk back out of - when Westminster decides to unlock it. That's not what the history shows. That's not what the law shows. And more importantly, that's not a strategy. That's a queue. The Queue Strategy and Why It Fails: For twenty years, the mainstream independence movement has been standing in a queue. The queue works like this: win elections, ask for a referendum, get refused, win more elections, ask again, get refused again, and gradually - the theory goes - Westminster will have to say yes. It hasn't worked. It won't work. Not because the numbers aren't there, but because the strategy contains a fatal flaw at its core. It asks the entity that benefits from the union to adjudicate whether the union should end. That's not politics. That's a permission slip from your abuser. What the History Actually Shows: Here's what years of serious historical and legal research - not campaigning, not lobbying, actual scholarship - has established: The Treaty of Union of 1707 was not a voluntary merger between equal partners. The Scottish Parliament was not a legitimate signatory. It had been dissolved by Queen Anne under authority she derived from a Great Britain that didn't legally exist yet. Its members had been coerced, bribed, and threatened. The process violated the constitutional framework Scotland had operated under for centuries - a framework in which sovereignty resided not in the Crown, not in Parliament, but in the Community of the Realm. That framework was never abolished. It was suppressed. That's not a grievance or a myth. That's documented, evidenced, and - critically - it has a legal pathway attached to it. The Actual Fast Route: There is no fast route if "fast" means shortcuts. But there is a direct route, which is faster than the queue, because it bypasses the gatekeepers entirely. It has three components: One: Assert the correct legal position: Scotland isn't seeking permission to leave a voluntary union. Scotland is asserting that a coercive annexation, carried out in violation of the constitutional order that governed the relationship between the Scottish Crown and the Community of the Realm, was and remains legally defective. The claim isn't "let us go." The claim is "what was done to us was unlawful, and we have never stopped saying so." That's the position of the Claim of Right - reaffirmed by Westminster itself in September 2016, largely without its members understanding what they were reaffirming. Two: Take the case to the international arena: Westminster cannot block what Westminster cannot control. The UN decolonisation framework exists precisely for situations where a metropolitan power will not voluntarily relinquish a colonial relationship. Scotland has a stronger evidential case for colonial status - structural economic extraction, demographic decline relative to the incorporating power, suppression of legal and constitutional frameworks - than many territories that achieved UN recognition. The route runs through Geneva, through the Human Rights Council, through international legal bodies where Westminster's veto doesn't operate. This is the route currently being developed - quietly, carefully, and with serious legal preparation. 1/2 Continued 👇

We really need to see the truth of this. They are sowing fear in order to take us into yet another British imperial war, the product of hung-over colonial minds that never stop mourning loss of empire. But we Scots have zero interest in their geopolitical follies, and every interest in getting out from under their imperial boot heel. They are Scotland's enemy. Russia is not.
They've really fucked up, haven't they? The class in power is the wrong class, making catastrophic decision after catastrophic decision in the name of a catastrophic rendering of human affairs. They believe that we, the West, is Rome to Russia's Carthage, and they have acted accordingly to the point where the prospect of war has never been more real. We have no enemies in Russia, they do. We are not responsible for Britain facing 'hostile states', they are. Russia is not and never has been a threat to Britain. But Britain is and continues to be a threat to Russia. Britain has not faced the looming threat of a hostile military alliance expanding up to its borders, Russia has. They can't even fight and defeat poverty in Britain, yet they expect us to fight and defeat Russia. They can't keep our pensioners warm in winter, yet they expect the grandsons of those pensioners to fight Russia. They can't even keep all our children properly fed and securely housed, yet they expect their dads to fight Russia. Despite everything, they want us to play the patriot game, to believe them when they say that Russia poses a growing threat. The real threat is posed by them and their barbaric ways. In the year 2026, is this really as good as it gets? theguardian.com/politics/202…

Some in our party appear to think the union is voluntary & that Westminster must consent to a referendum. That is patently not true as you correctly say "we are not in a voluntary union". IMHO it's time therefore to seek an alternative route e.g. UN/SALVO @LiberationScot/ Defacto

Scotland the Dump
Replying to @Jamie4North
Dounreay had a near Chernobyl style runaway reaction in 1968 and dumped the evidence, (most of the core bar the melted rods which could not be removed and are still there for you to see), down a low level waste shaft in the cliff. Despite dropping a tonne of boronated glass on top of it, it went critical in 1978, ejecting its contents as far as the foreshore and destroying the rock structure such that the sea bed and foreshore are now so contaminated that they cannot be remediated. I know because I made the documentary - though the runaway criticality that caused the shaft explosion was not included because that evidence only came to light later on. Never a full public inquiry nor lessons taken and learned. But let’s not get hung up on ‘outdated policies’ eh?

Scotland's once revered independent justice system has been hollowed out and left in utter tatters in recent decades. It was once, like education - a system that is now, also, a smoking dung pyre of embarrassment - one of the great pillars of Scotland. Once these were independent institutions that demonstrated the Scots can do things differently and, crucially, better than elsewhere. How that steady, relentless decline happened, and was allowed to happen, deserves more space than this tweet will allow. But there is no doubt in my mind it has been deliberate and orchestrated. Officials and politicians who absolutely do not have Scotland's best interests at heart have driven this neglect and sabotage of Scotland's independent institutions. There are many examples of it, from the fast track career process of English civil servants working in Scottish Government departments, to senior officials promoted and elevated way beyond their ability... Leslie Evans being one pertinent and very obvious example. It could be corrected and even reversed if there was strong, decisive and inspiring political leadership... Instead we have cash-bung @JohnSwinney, a man that couldn't start a fire if he was standing in a petrol warehouse with three crates of Cooks matches at his disposal.

Chris on sparkling form here. He brooks no English academic condescension. A well aimed and entirely justified tirade. It's interesting that @mehdirhasan draws on Scotland in a discussion of a state's right to exist. He might also be asking the question, what is a legitimate state? One we are asking of the England representing itself as a united kingdom incorporating an annexed Scotland.
Do you? Over 65 countries kicked out the English colonial state but Scotland is not a colony? Attached for you an image in PUCK magazine, the US' leading magazine at the end of the 19th century clearly showing Scotland is an English colony: everybody knew at the time Scotland was an English colony. As a high level Global South politician told me: don't worry everybody understands or will that Scotland would not have given up its freedom unless it was under coercion and bribery because nobody gives away his liberty. Do you simply repeat the colonial English version of history like all colonisers? You do understand given where you're standing you have zero credibility? Do you know about the illegal extension of the English Crown over the Scottish Crown which still exists (you do know there is no territorial union don't you?)? Do you know about the Claim of Right fully violated by the English colonial state? Do you know that the colonial Treaty of Union was never implemented? Do you know about the fact the English Crown vested Scottish oil & gas revenues in the English Crown (what real state would have to do that unless its annexation & territorial alienation)? The Royal Commission on Scottish Affairs (1952-54) created to lie to the international community saying Scotland entered voluntarily into a union with England and is not a dependency when the UN was asking to decolonise Scotland (which real state would do that unless it feared UN decolonisation ?)? The fact that Jamaica, India, Barbados etc were all English colonies (Jamaica was conquered by England while it was also colonising Scotland. Scots, a colonized people, were brought in as servants. You do know that right?)? That the East India Company was English in law? That Scots were forbidden by law to be part of the English empire before annexation? That the law in all.the English Empire was English law? English law! British gas always meant English. It's England colonial veil to annex Scotland since annexation was as illegal then as it is now. That Liberation Scotland, Scotland's liberation movement, with Professor Robert Black KC, Scotland's leading law authority, have proven annexation? That Scots (Irish and Welsh) are officially called English by the English colonial foreign office in countries around the world in foreign languages and it's defended officially by the FCDO? You do know the central bank is called the Bank of England don't you (more evidence. Do you even understand what that means?)? You do know Scotland is run by English intelligence? That all institutions are captured? That MI5 pays all sorts of people in Scotland? That Scotland has no media (colonially reserved matter)? You do know we are meeting high level diplomats and politicians globally don't you? which all understand Scotland is an English colony? What do you think of the genocide, deportations, ethnic cleansing etc that took place in Scotland? What about the linguicide? What about the ports and all logistics being destroyed for all trade to go through England? About the over 150£ billion stolen annually from Scotland? About the colonial ledgers GERS and Barnett Formula? About the colonial voting system? Do you know about nuclear colonialism? Why are nuclear weapons 40km from Glasgow and not from London? Etc etc. Any honest person knows its colonisation, that Scotland is an English colony. Do you understand colonialism? Annexation ? Territorial alienation? Do you know Scotland is an older state than England which was recognised all over Europe? The English colonial state is a criminal state, a global threat to peace and security. It is illegally occupying Scotland and must and will leave. It's expulsion from Scotland will trigger UN Security Council reform. The world will teach the English colonial state a huge lesson. It's time.

We wanted to ask Dave why he's wasting his energy on such hopeless stuff, when he could be prosecuting Scots' rightful claim to sovereignty in their own land. But this stentorian of Scots' right to free speech, as guaranteed by what the British state calls the 'foundational' document of the Claim of Right, has his Reply button switched off. He doesn't want comment or debate. Aren't you tempted to ask: is this where the founders of the SNP – MacIntyre, MacDiarmid, MacCormick, would have wanted us to be today? We say no. They were radicals, and radicalism brought us here. This is worse than simply managerial; it is suffocating of dissent from the path into a wilderness of diverted impotence.
‼️ Small businesses are the cornerstone of our communities, supporting local jobs and driving the economy. It’s time Labour reduced VAT, a tax over which Scotland has no control.

Multiple crosses of St George adorn the stylised plaster corbels on the walls of this state banquetting hall. Which state? In truth, the enduring state of England that emerged unchanged and undiminished in power from the coerced Treaty of 1707, entered into by England in bad faith; a bad faith for which its devoted son, Robert Harley, who gave his name to the famous London street, judged it in private correspondence both guilty, in respect of Scotland, and internationally notorious. England was the 'continuator state' from that 'voluntary partnership', its constitutional experts told the world in 2012.; that is to say, he annexing party of its weaker state 'partner'. The signs of a seamless transformation of England into a Great Britain, at least nominally, are everywhere, but not least in the written word of the British state itself, transmitted to the nations of the world in a moment of fear that the Scots might be on the point of reclaiming their national state sovereignty; a usurped sovereignty which Scots, in full right of international law, are now reclaiming among the members of the United Nations.
