I know I write about the royals, but this from Aberfan today just broke me.
It’s from Diane Thomas, 78, a rescuer from the Red Cross who was only 18 at the time of the disaster, and spoke to Prince William.
She said: ‘The chapel had been converted into a mortuary so I spent three nights in the mortuary, bathing the children, to try and get slurry off their little faces so their parents could recognise them.
‘I took the anorak off one little boy, put my hand in his pocket and came out [with a note that] he’d had eight out of 10 for spelling. I’ve been trying all these years to think about how I can trace his mum. I can’t but I want to tell her because I was the last person to hold him and bathe him.’
This is why today is so important.

Son: Hey Dad, was music really better when you were younger?
Me: Son, we had an entire generation growing up with music so good that 50 years later, we're still turning up the volume when it comes on.
Here, let me show you what I mean.
Was lucky enough to see him in 1977 supporting Nils Lofgren. I won't say Nils was blown off stage but ti was close.

Get yourself along to The Duck is my recommendation
Beer at least £2 a pint cheaper than 'Quinn's Sports Bar'
Fucking Sports Bar! It's a bar for fucks sake that charges sky high prices. The addition of the word ' Sports ' doesn't change that

Not heading to Portugal? Join us in Quinn’s Sports Bar at the Stadium of Light when we take on S.C.U. Torreense! 🍻

I have been looking back at old issues of the local football paper for that period. Lack of support was the main issue but didn't explain why there would be more support at Gateshead.
Long before #ManCity ’s current troubles #SouthShieldsFC were in the same league (Div 2) back in 1927-28, albeit at the opposite end.
In 1930 Shields relocated to Gateshead. The club later re-formed in their home town and in 1974 they left for Gateshead again.
