I don’t know how many times I mentioned this over the years, but this was always going to be the key for Caleb taking the next step Less Superman, more Clark Kent. And he’s been doing it beautifully
The amazing thing with Caleb is that the reason he appears to have taken that leap into the Tier 1 of NFL QBs is that he's now just doing the simple stuff extremely well.

I was in the building for Khalil Mack’s first game as a Bear and totally agree with Jacob here It wasn’t just the plays when Mack took over, it was also how much energy everyone else around him started playing with because of him Felt the same last night
This debut game from Jeffery Simmons reminds me a lot of Khalil Mack's debut with the #Bears back in 2018. Just an absolute game changer who makes the rest of the defense better around him. Except this time, Chicago is gonna hold onto the lead.

this is sick #bears run the ball down to the one, and then Caleb gets them into the hurry to "reload" and run the same play again they get into the same formation, run the same pre-snap motion, except they don't run the ball again, Caleb pulls it, rolls right, and finds Burden for the score some really good gamesmanship early from Ben Johnson

Never trailed in either game
The Bears have beaten the defending AFC champions and the reigning Super Bowl champions in primetime in back-to-back weeks.

“I expect Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams to have the best offensive game of any team against Seattle this year.” @DannyParkins breaks down why:

JSN might go for 200
#Bears CB Malik Muhammad (toe) will not play tonight.

Lamar getting hurt might have been the only thing that could keep Declan Doyle in Baltimore for another year And even then…
Lamar was cooking in this offense for the 3.5 games he played this year. Really wish we got to see more of it

So far this season, teams are 0/18 on onside kick attempts Probably should just stop trying onside kicks too eh
please show me one example this season of someone being down 14, going for 2, getting it, scoring again and winning… I’ll wait.

I know Steve is slightly joking here but he's actually not wrong either When you have a coach like Ben Johnson, you can afford to take big swings and miss. You should probably even consider doing it more. Even if you miss, your baseline is Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson. Look at Shanahan and the 49ers. Every receiver hurt? Doesn't matter All your best defenders miss the year with injuries? Still make the playoffs. They even traded 3 1sts for like the worst first-round QB of all time and literally never skipped a beat Bears fans need to start worrying less. If the trade works out, we got one of the best DTs in football. If somehow it doesn't, we were one of the better teams in football without him
I see Bears fans arguing over the draft capital they gave up "Well actually, according to this trade value chart..." You're doing too much. The appropriate response is "Who cares nerd? We have Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson, and Jeffery freaking Simmons."

Ryan Poles has been one of the more active GMs around the trade deadline, especially on the day of Don’t be surprised if they #Bears are still making calls over the next few weeks
We’re 12 days away from the NFL trade deadline. Here’s when each active NFL GM has made in-season trades this close to the deadline, including deadline day. Full GM careers included.

Whew boy
Dead last for the #Bears Cannot be understated just how poorly Ryan Poles has built this defense. One of the worst in the league, and one of the most expensive. Bears have their promising QB on his rookie contract and aren’t even really able to take advantage of it Sigh

Music to my ears man Very glad the #Bears didn’t miss out on someone like Simmons and then try to compensate by chasing after/overpaying for a 2nd tier guy It feels like how Poles has done things in the past and feel very blessed that he was done with half-measures
After talking to several NFL teams and GMs over the last hour, my expectation is the trade deadline will be even crazier than anticipated. Chicago’s all-in move will cause other teams to react and try to be bold as well. In the words of one source: “All hell is going to break loose over the next week and a half. Get your popcorn ready.” 🍿🍿🍿

Great points here from JW Similar to the Mack trade in 2018, you have a promising young football team that turned one of their weaknesses into a strength over night Hard to understate how much this can move the needle for the #Bears
Cannot overstate how big the Simmons addition is for Chicago's defense. Their non-Jarrett DTs were a complete waste of space. Taking those guys off the field for a bunch of snaps has immense value before you even factor in that Simmons is one of the best DTs in the NFL.

Gotta give credit to Ryan Poles here He’s taken a few big swings at fixing the d-line before and just never really hit Didn’t stop him from trying, and now the #Bears have a proper cornerstone defender and force multiplier on the D-Line
Trade: Titans are trading All Pro DT Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears, per sources.
