📡 MDA Space wants to own and operate a satellite constellation of its own — 170 satellites for direct-to-device. 🇨🇦
The plan, called SpaceRAN, surfaced in an ITU advance-publication filing and in MDA's response to Ottawa's consultation on mobile satellite spectrum. First phase: 96 satellites targeted for 2029, full Canadian coverage. CEO Mike Greenley told investors not to expect a big cheque from MDA — the build is meant to be funded through a consortium of Canadian partners.

@MGreenley, CEO of @MDA_space , tells host @paigesellis that the U.S.-led Artemis program and China are in a global sprint to establish a presence on the lunar surface by 2028—and secure the best spots.
And the race is unfolding as the geopolitical landscape shifts. The U.S. is pulling back from the world—and Greenley says that’s forcing Canada to stand taller and take greater control of its own security, sovereignty and economic future.
With the Gateway space station paused, Canada is also pivoting its world-leading space robotics expertise to the lunar surface, where technology developed through the Canadarm program could help load spacecraft, move equipment and support industrial activity on the Moon.

🛰️ After half a century building parts for other people's satellites, MDA Space has delivered eight of its own.
Eight Globalstar replenishment satellites lifted off from Cape Canaveral on Saturday night aboard a Falcon 9. They are the first complete spacecraft MDA Space has delivered as prime contractor on a commercial communications constellation.
