The Mercury Music prize was indeed named after the Mercury Communications company… the one that had the post modern phone boxes from 1986! This one was saved and is on display at the @MKMuseum

FRIDAY FUN: Any idea what this is?
Not a particularly tricky one, this week! It’s a knife, yep, but this is from the medieval period, complete with bone handle.
It was discovered in Great Linford.

Santa kept the chills away on a recent visit to see us with a seat in front of the open fire. Toasty and warm, indeed!
He'll return this Xmas, with gifts for all the good children from the new city.

And we continue to document today's news, which is tomorrow's history.
We are proud to be the Museum for Milton Keynes. #MiltonKeynes2029
At first sight, this snap of Silbury Boulevard doesn't look too dissimilar to today, but look again - Aside from the old motors, there was a curious thing called a phone box!
Witrh thanks our friends at @livingarchive1 for this image, from around 1988.

FRIDAY FUN: What is it?
Once upon a time, this would have held liquid...it's a medieval pewter chalice, which was recovered locally.
As you can see, its days as a vessel ended some time ago!

It is a little more rudimentary than those we use today, but the design remains remarkably similar, because it worked then and it works now – this is a Saxon needle made of bone.
It was discovered in Pennyland, and is now part of our collection.

We were thrilled to receive a special visit from Father Christmas yesterday.
He was rather surprised to find a snowman while the sun shone, too. That's the magic of the Museum!
