Day 8 with no power here. Slated for up to 7 more days. Two young kids (4 & 7), a sweet senior dog (10.5) and their grown ups (physicians serving VUMC & the State of TN) are desperate to get back home. It's a simple repair of a severed line between 2 NES poles.

Yup. Day 8 with no power for us. Two young kids (4 & 7), a sweet senior dog (10.5) and their grown ups (physicians serving VUMC & the State of TN) are desperate to get back home. It's a simple repair of a severed line between 2 NES poles.

And many thanks to Dr. Reingold (@california_eip) for a beautiful tribute to Dr. William Schaffner who has handed over the reins of @VUMChealth EIP leadership in TN after many years. Dr. Schaffner is a national treasure, and I feel fortunate to have him as a mentor & colleague.
Wonderful to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the @CDCgov Emerging Infections Program in Tennessee (a longstanding partnership between @TNDeptofHealth & @VUMChealth). The EIP network provides essential population-based, active surveillance data for diverse pathogens.

The vast majority (>80%) of public health funding to state HDs for epidemiology activities and personnel is federal.

Immensely grateful to have easy (free!) access to @TennStateParks statewide. 56 parks with hiking, camping, boating, and a myriad of other activities. Enjoyed these scenic views at Natchez Trace State Park today during a work retreat.
It was a privilege to showcase the work of our exceptional Tennessee team during the @NACCHO @prepsummit plenary "Preparedness in a Shared Environment: Renewing Our Commitment to One Health". Congratulations to all from Tennessee who presented their impactful work at #Prep23!
Only 14 states/territories have ≥95% coverage (2 doses) of MMR vaccine among kindergarteners; 13 states/territories have <90% coverage.
Many jurisdictions are high-risk for measles outbreaks - recall the recent OH outbreak that hospitalized 33 children.

They are brilliant, thoughtful, attentive clinicians - who are often some of the few that take the time to conduct a comprehensive history, physical and chart review (accurate satire from @DGlaucomflecken here: youtube.com/watch?v=y4QqLvu-…).
The contact follow-up rate in the Ugandan Ebola response seems to have been steadily declining over the last few reports. A 53% follow-up rate of contacts is ... worrisome (especially when this number has frequently been >85%). Hopefully just a blip.

Hey @Reagan_Airport - while I appreciate this clean, comfortable nursing room in terminal 1 - it would be *really* nice if it wasn’t BEFORE security.
Most nursing moms try to time a final pump/feed as close to the flight as possible, which means pumping in a bathroom 👎🏼
