I'm joining @CMAlexaAviles and @MMitaynes with a simple plea for @nyc_dot: make Third Avenue in Sunset Park safe.
Our neighbors have been demanding action for years. The human cost is too high to wait any longer. It's time to redesign this street and put safety first. – at Brooklyn, NY

If you're in Sunset Park look out for us as we knock your block! We're organizing against the Gowanus fracked gas plant, which would raise utility bills and add tons of pollution if approved.
Our members will be out doorknocking to make sure .@GovKathyHochul stops the plant – at Brooklyn, NY

It's a shame that all we offer someone facing a psychotic break, depression, or trauma is punishment. New Yorkers deserve treatment, not jail.
It's time we invest in mental health courts and pass the Treatment Court Expansion Act!
Mental health courts have expanded in recent years as an off-ramp to incarceration for defendants in need of treatment.
But about half of New York’s 62 counties still don’t have one. nysfocus.com/2026/08/04/ment…

Cancer has shaken so many families and taken so many lives.
But we can create a world where breast cancer survivors not only survive, but also thrive.
That’s why it’s so critical to have spaces like @MaimoHealth's new Mammography Suite and Breast Cancer Survivorship Program.

Brooklyn is at the epicenter of the SNAP theft crisis, and families already struggling to put food on the table are the ones paying the price. The City and State need to step up and act now.
We need:
-Modernized EBT security
-SNAP reimbursement fund
-An Office of SNAP Fraud
"I struggled for a while," said one Brooklyn mom who recently had her SNAP benefits stolen, an experience she said was "devastating."
"Getting help from close family and friends, which was also a hassle because everybody has their own family to feed." citylimits.org/where-did-new…

United Senior Center of Sunset Park was truly alive today as older adults gathered to meet @NYCMayor
Last year, we were battling to keep this vital center open. United Senior is community resource that serves every part of our neighborhood. (1/3)

like Mamdani, both of the lawmakers he credits here — State Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes and City Councilmember Alexa Avilés — are democratic socialists
When their landlord tried to raise the rent by more than 70%, the largest multilingual senior center in Sunset Park was forced to close its doors. But Sunset Park fought back.
Thanks to the leadership of @CMAlexaAviles and @MMitaynes, who secured the funding to save the United Senior Center, this community has its home again.
Today, the seniors of Sunset Park reminded us what it's all about: a packed dance floor, games with friends, and a community that sticks together.

With 25 BMT port proposals just released, the public needs time to review them before the comment period ends on 3/31.
I sent a letter w/@marcelaforny @alexaforcouncil @ShahanaFromBK urging @NYCEDC to extend the comment period.

In the face of NYC’s $5.4 billion budget gap, we can’t ask working and middle-class New Yorkers to foot the bill. Those who can afford it must invest in the shared success of this city. It’s time to #TaxTheRich & #EndTheDrain
