So I have the final expected budget to get our demo out, and expected costs for full launch.
It’s pretty much exactly what I expected. For Full Release: Around 1.2 Million based on the PERT analysis.
If we start in August, demo expected January. If we wait to get the Canadian Media Fund grant, we can’t start until January or even February. We also could NOT get that grant.
I can solo fund the production, but the grant would remove 75% of the financial risk.
Waiting for our market analysis to find out our expected return in the first year, and if this seems like a viable opportunity to break even or profit. Depending on this data, we will decide to move forward or not.
I have a lot of faith in this idea, and the team helping me build it… but need to decide how much risk I want to take on.
Getting a publisher to fund this doesn’t seem worth it at this time. The % they take is so large, that I’d rather just risk it myself, or use government funding as the primary option.
2-3 weeks, and I’ll have a better idea of our final game-plan to get this game developed.
This is my last update on the project until real progress is underway.
Just wanted to update anyone curious if this was still a thing. All signs currently point to YES… but risk appetite and actual start date are a bit in the air.
I’ve already had a few comments about how refreshing it is to get instant feedback on features / art that can be iterated on same day. Many times the art team would suggest a change or design a character and be forced to wait 2 weeks for a meeting with managers. I think layers of management and too much staff bloated the game industry. Then you have 90-200 people who are taking salaries monthly and all of a sudden you need 20-30 million a year to just exist.
Now management refuses to take risk and make the 9th remake with reused assets to save money
These guys took their idea and evolved it into a wicked roguelite. Try out their demo and support a fellow Youtuber Game dev!

I tried to leak so many things last night about our game. @phantomrowboat yelled at me though and made me stop.
Gamers... I am struggling here. I can't hold this in much longer
I want an MMO… with a good crafting and trade economy…..
But 99% of the content is solo. Like I fight dark souls / raid bosses that my build excels at to farm gear to improve myself or sell.
RuneScape is actually very much like this, but I’d love one with more action combat
More Athletes and actors need to just be real people haha. This is so much more entertaining and real than half the media trained stuff you get. Like what is going on in YOUR world. It the organization or production
Not sponsored but, I played a lot of @wickedgame early access, and the 1.0 launch preview was CRACKED. This game was already fun, and it looks like 2x better going into 1.0: youtube.com/watch?v=9M236rDA…
Damn! The survival genre is cooking like crazy. I’ll be curious to see how @KeenGamesStudio Enshrouded does compared to @Valheimgame and @RSDragonwilds
Which one are y’all most interested in???
So far, @ValorMortis has been really fun. I'm enjoying it as one of the first "first-person" soulslike games I have ever experienced. I am 3 bosses in, and I have really enjoyed the different upgrades and weapons so far.
Shotgun pistol FTW!
Glad I made my content creator money during the gold rush of the lockdown. Brands are just going to start using AI creators in their paid ads, YouTube is adding a skip button for integrations, and twitch bots scared away a lot of sponsorship opportunities for people.
