This collection of essays for @polcommjournal challenges our field to reckon with the asymmetries (and idiosyncracies) of our current political landscape and to take principled stances on the far right in our work. Privileged to be in conversation with these scholars ⬇️🙏

Last term was my first teaching a course as uni faculty @LeedsUniMedia. Gearing up to do it again, but wanted to reflect on & celebrate the work of my 1st yr students in "Power, Politics & Media" who submitted research posters, some of which I'm sharing, with their permission 🧵:

Another research group compared coverage of the 2020 BLM protests in Fox News and CNN. They found that the frame of “riots and lawlessness” pervaded Fox’s coverage, while CNN described “peaceful protests” as separate and apart from “violent clashes.”

Overall, I was impressed by the students’ curiosity, knowledge, and capacity for self-reflection. Grateful to them for the reminder that (despite the incentives and failings of high ed institutions) teaching provides the most rewarding moments of an academic career!
