For over a month now, I've been immersed in research, conversations, and meetings focused on democracy building and how I can contribute to these efforts.
Here's what I've gathered so far, summed up in a quote 👇🏾
"Democracy building requires continuous adaptation and effective service.” @MagomaOumar, Kenya. Through the #HurfordYouth Fellowship, our 2024 cohort is deepening their understanding of challenges and opportunities to advance democracy. Meet our fellows: movedemocracy.org/strengthen…

Africa Peer Review Mechanism will officially launch the AFRICA CREDIT RATING AGENCY (AfCRA ) in Port Louis , Mauritius 🇲🇺 on 7 October 2026.
WHY AFRICAN CREDIT RATING AGENCY MATTERS NOW 📌
African Union @_AfricanUnion Member States continue to face disproportionately high borrowing costs, constraining governments’ ability to finance infrastructure, jobs and essential public services. Thus the establishment of AfCRA is therefore bold, timely and strategic.
1. Reduce Africa’s High Cost of Capital
African countries frequently borrow at significantly higher interest rates than comparable economies elsewhere. More accurate and context-sensitive assessments of African risk can help address the perceived 'Africa risk premium' , potentially saving billions in debt-servicing costs and freeing resources for development.
2. Provide a More Balanced Assessment of African Risk
Existing global rating methodologies such as S&P Global Ratings, Moody's and Fitch Ratings have been criticised for not sufficiently accounting for Africa’s economic structures, informal economies, domestic financing capacity and institutional reforms. AfCRA can provide an additional, independent African perspective based on deeper understanding of local contexts
3. Expand Access to Capital Markets
Many African sovereigns, municipalities and companies remain unrated or underserved by the international ratings industry. AfCRA can help close this gap, enabling more African entities to establish credible risk profiles and potentially access domestic and international capital for infrastructure and development.
4. Strengthen Financial Sovereignty and African Capital Markets
Africa cannot achieve Agenda 2063 while remaining excessively dependent on external institutions to assess its creditworthiness. AfCRA can strengthen African financial architecture, deepen local-currency capital markets and complement institutions such as Afreximbank, the African Development Bank and the emerging continental financial architecture.
5. Improve Governance, Transparency and Investor Confidence
AfCRA’s credibility will ultimately depend on its independence, transparency and technical rigour. Its establishment can incentivise governments to improve economic data, debt transparency, fiscal governance and institutional performance. A credible African rating institution can strengthen investor confidence while giving African countries greater ownership of their economic narrative.
In sum the establishment of AfCRA is not about giving Africa favourable ratings. It is about ensuring Africa is rated fairly, credibly and with a deeper understanding of its economic realities.
Bravo! @APRM_MarieRose for the visionary leadership & the entire team.
Congratulations 🎊 to the people of Africa for this important milestone 📌

Ten years ago, in July 2016, Africa sent a powerful signal about the continent it wanted to build.
The late President of Chad 🇹🇩, H.E. Idriss Déby Itno together with President Paul Kagame 🇷🇼, unveiled the African Union Passport. Its initial rollout to Heads of State, Foreign Ministers and Permanent Representatives was intended to pave the way towards a continent where Africans could move more freely across their own continent.
In January 2018, this ambition was taken further with the adoption of the AU Protocol on Free Movement of Persons @_AfricanUnion
Yet, nearly a decade after the AU Passport was unveiled, progress remains far too slow. Only Mali, Rwanda, Niger & SĂŁo TomĂ© and PrĂncipe have ratified - providing visa on arrival at 0 cost to African people.
The vision remains compelling: an Africa where people, skills, ideas, investment and opportunity can move more freely across borders. Intra Africa trade sits at less than 20% while European Union is at 60 % & Asia at 64%.
Dear fellow Young Africans: this is also our agenda to champion because it affects us. Youth unemployment is too High in our countries. We have to trade amongst ourselves as Africans to curb poor economic growth. Buy Africa and keep jobs in Africa🌍
We must encourage our governments to sign, ratify and implement the Free Movement Protocol. Continental integration cannot only be about moving goods while the people producing, trading, innovating and creating those goods remain constrained by borders & expensive visa fees.
AfCFTA and free movement are two sides of the same integration project.
Africa cannot fully realise a single market without progressively making it easier for Africans themselves to move.
We must not wait for another decade. Movement of the people!

Africa's transformation will not be driven by infrastructure alone. It also requires a fundamental reset in how we govern, lead and build institutions.
The African Peer Review Mechanism @APRMorg is proud to field a strong delegation at the Africa School of Governance @ASG_Africa Africa Mindset Reset: From Pan-Africanism to Meta-Africanism Forum.
Led by APRM CEO, Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre @APRM_MarieRose the delegation will contribute to one of the continent's most important conversations: What governance resets are needed to move Africa from ambition to execution?
Good governance is Africa's soft infrastructure. It is the foundation upon which Agenda 2063, economic integration, investment, peace and sustainable development must stand.
The forum is particularly timely as Africa prepares for the historic launch of the African Credit Rating Agency in Mauritius 🇲🇺 on 7 October 2026. This milestone represents more than a new institution,it signals Africa's determination to strengthen its financial sovereignty, shape its own narratives and build institutions that reflect African realities and aspirations.
A mindset reset must be matched by an institutional reset. From Pan-Africanism to Meta-Africanism, Africa is moving from vision to execution.

It is a great honour & a privilege to join this important Intergenerational Dialogue at #MindsetReset2026, alongside such distinguished African leaders & changemakers. Many thanks @ASG_Africa for the invitation.
I look forward to speaking on behalf of Africa’s young people particularly those too often forgotten rejected or left behind by the very systems and institutions meant to serve them.
Africa has never been short of vision. Our challenge is to build institutions that translate that vision into dignity, opportunity and tangible impact in the everyday lives of our people especially for #GenZ
For me, the reset must begin with listening differently: bringing voices from the margins to the centre, confronting the institutional barriers that exclude young Africans, and ensuring that the next chapter of Africa is not only written for young people, but with and by them.
The future must be inclusive & reflective of Africa's greatest asset- its youthful population.

Africa has never been short of vision, but the harder question is: who builds the institutions that turn vision into impactful?
At the upcoming #MindsetReset2026, this panel takes it on: H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo, H.E. @fcmljallow1, H.E. @KalondoMonica, H.E. @MeneWamkele, @LennonMonyae and @WakoliCaren.
The Intergenerational Dialogue puts former Presidents and Vice Presidents in the same conversation as the people running youth networks and leadership labs, to pave Africa's next chapter. Join the reset.

Most professionals aren’t stuck because they lack skill.
They’re stuck because they’ve learned to stay safe instead of being seen.
And over time, invisibility costs you opportunities, income, and confidence.
Your work deserves visibility.

Most ambitious people think their CV is the reason they feel stuck in their career. I believed that too.
