🖤🤍 "We need to identify ourselves as a unit..." – Inside Jaissle's bold calls and dressing room scenes at Selhurst Park! The screams of delight from the away dressing room shook the foundations of the Holmesdale Road Stand as Newcastle United secured a huge three points at Crystal Palace to reach 11 points on the board. Matthias Jaissle made some brave selection calls ahead of kick-off, benching Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw to bring back the experienced duo of Fabian Schär and Dan Burn. Speaking after the match, Jaissle explained his decision while making sure to credit the benched duo: 🗣️ "For me it's also important to mention that Sven and Malick did a good job in the last week. Today we went for more experience, for leadership skills in particular, to give stability for a young group and a group that was shaking a bit with the defeats. We're really glad that it worked out." "That's due to the experience, it's a natural effect. They have played so many matches and they have the capacity to coach others and communicate on the pitch. This is closely linked with being older. The only problem is they kill us with the average age of the starting XI! But other than that they do a great job." On the overall team spirit and mindset after a tough month, Jaissle added: 🗣️ "We need to identify ourselves as a unit and a team who can overcome setbacks and that's what we did today. It's not done by an individual player. You need team-mates and staff and coaches and fans. If we go with that mindset, that we're a unit and if we are all together then this journey will be successful." Great to see both Botman and Thiaw right in the thick of the post-match celebrations too. Now all focus turns to Everton in the Carabao Cup! #NewcastleUnited #Newcastle #NUFCFans #PremierLeague #EPL #Football #NUFC

🥳 Happy birthday to former Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet! Remember him!? He joined us on 11 January 2016 from Bordeaux, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract for a reported fee of £5m. He didn't do a great deal after this, but we will always have that free kick he scored in our 3–2 Premier League win against West Ham at Upton Park. The former Senegal international is still in the game playing for French Championnat National club Caen. Since leaving Tyneside he also played two seasons for both Pau and Clermont, also in France. #NewcastleUnited #Newcastle #NUFCFans #PremierLeague #EPL #Football #NUFC

So, 8 games into the season and were in 8th place in the Premier League. In a season that has been a rollercoaster so far. With highs and lows. I think from our first 8 games it is good going. If things can start to click game to game. Even with the setbacks this young team has had and will have, we can still have a very good season! #NUFC

🇩🇪 JAISSLE ON OSULA 🇩🇪 "He did an amazing job. We’re happy that he’s getting back on track. He was out for a long time, but physically he’s improving... and he’s a player with huge potential." Great to see Will building momentum again. The lad has serious talent—time to kick on! 🖤🤍 #NUFC #NUFCFans #Newcastle #NUFCNews

🇧🇦 🅰️ Great to see Dedic with another ASSIST. We've missed his attacking presence down the right-hand side a lot over the past month or so. His 4th assist of the season for us. Fantastic full-back. #NUFC

🏟️ Selhurst Park was the venue this afternoon as The Eagles and The Magpies looked to get their seasons back on track after both sides tasted defeats in their last set of Premier League fixtures. 🏁 After what was a classic tale of a game of two halves, it was Newcastle United who headed back to the North East from the capital with all three points courtesy of second half goals from Will Osula and Harvey Barnes. 🦅 Pierre Sage made three changes to his Crystal Palace side that got thrashed 5-0 by Brighton during their last outing. Jean Philip-Mateta returned to the starting eleven to play alongside Chris Richards who made his 100th Premier League appearance by starting today. 🇩🇪 Matthias Jaissle made a total of five changes following the Magpies defeat to Aston Villa last week. Dan Burn retook the captains armband as he returned to the starting lineup along side Jacob Murphy, Amar Dedic and William Osula. Fabian Schar also returned to the starting eleven for his first league start of this years campaign. ⌛ The hosts should have been in-front inside the opening three minutes when Wharton’s free-kick landed at the feet of Mateta but Hornicek was able to thwart his effort. Just a couple of minutes the visitors were cut open again, McNeil fed in Kamada but he could only drag his effort wide of goal. Osula registered #Newcastle’s first attempt at goal in the 8th minute when he capitalised on some sloppy Palace defending but his strike from range was blocked. Mateta fired wide in the 12th minute after finding a gap to run in between Burn and Schar but his right footed effort was dragged wide of Hornicek’s goal. As the game entered the 20 minute mark, McNeil found himself in a dangerous position down the left hand side, he whipped a ball across goal but fortunately for the Magpies, no one was there to convert. Burn headed wide for the visitors on the half hour mark after a decent cross by Hall, the Geordie captain should have done better and perhaps tested the Palace stopper. #NUFC could consider themselves lucky to not go into the break a goal down after the ball landed at the feet of Pino in the box but Hall was able to hack it away just before the attacker pulled the trigger. Half Time Scoreline Crystal Palace 0 – Newcastle United 0. 🤩 Newcastle took the lead two minutes into the second half when Osula tapped home from close range following an inch perfect Murphy cross. Willock had the ball in the back of the net just a few minutes later after he slotted home following a through ball by Joelinton but it was ruled out for offside after starting his run just a split second too late. It was 2-0 in the 57th minute and this time there was no chance of it getting ruled out. Dedic squared up Barnes in the box who made no mistake and buried it home at the first attempt to score his fourth goal in all competitions this season. Hornicek pulled off a smart save in the 60th minute to deny Wharton from the edge of the box. Joelinton attempted to get in on the action a couple of minutes later when he latched onto Schar’s cutback but the Brazilian’s effort flew way over the crossbar. Barnes curled one over in the 68th minute as he looked for his second goal of the game and what would be his 100th career goal. Osorio let fire from range in the 70th minute but his swerving effort was palmed behind from Hornicek. Osorio fired over from the edge of the penalty area in the 84th minute after a promising run forward by the hosts. Osorio fired over in the 90th minute as we entered six minutes of stoppage time but Hornicek comfortably watched it sail over his head. Full Time Scoreline Crystal Palace 0 – Newcastle United 2. Sutton’s Full Time Thoughts: What an important win that could turn out to be and how much that will mean to Matthias Jaissle after recent results! The first half was a tough watch and we struggled to get a hold of the game but when we emerged for the second half we were like a totally different team. Whatever....

MJ aid during the interval obviously worked! Lucas Hornicek made some important saves in both halves especially his fingertip one in the 70th minute to deny Darlo Osario, Dan Burn had a solid game and provided some much needed calmness to the side with his big presence but just pipping him to the post as MOTM was Nico Gonzalez. He proved key support in front of the back four and played his part in the second goal. Amar Dedic and Jacob Murphy were also amongst the standout performers even if the latter didn’t manage to create any chances during the opening 45minutes. With these three points, we move up to seventh in the table and hopefully we can kick-on from here. This will be the momentum boost we need heading into a tough EFL Cup encounter with the Toffees later on next week. Howay Matthias Jaissle’s Mags! 🦅 Crystal Palace Line Up: Benitez, Canvot, Disasi, Richards, Mitchell, Kamada, Wharton ©, Khalali, Pino, McNeil (61, Osorio), Mateta (61, Nketiah). It was A HUGE call by Jaissle to bring both Schar and Burn back in today at centre back. But ultimately, the correct one. Both were excellent at the back today and both brought a calmness in defence. I think their experience and leadership really showed today! #NUFC
