Lots of folks seemed PRETTY sure that giving ketamine during general anesthesia to "block the trip" was pointless, anesthesia silences the brain and ketamine won't work. We checked. Just out in @JAMAPsych. Below: frequency heatmaps over the course of 40 min, + and - anesthesia:

Ever wondered what happens in the brain when someone takes the world’s most powerful psychedelic drug?🧐Me too! So we went and found out. Our new preprint is now live where you can read all about it: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

We fundamentally disagree with the decision by the UK Health bodies to move the Specialised Foundation Programme into the PIA system from 2025 and will fight for students by resisting this change in any way that we can. Read the full statement 👇bma.org.uk/news-and-opinion/…

This cortico-cardiac coupling in propofol anaesthesia could be due to a common brainstem generator. Its significance needs further investigation, but as someone interested in brain-heart interactions, I'm excited. 4/N

Finally, we made a waveform shape simulator so you can play with how adding harmonics with different phase, amplitude, and frequency affects the resulting waveform: shapegen.herokuapp.com/. 6/7

fMRI sensitive to in vivo spikes! Very exciting. Lots of trial averaging needed and CNR quite low but looks scalable to humans. Definitely one I will keep up with!
fMRI but not as we know it. Game-changing new functional MRI imaging technology DIANA maps spike activity in vivo, with extraordinary high temporal and spatial resolution (~5mx, 0.2 mm) Can't wait for its scaling up to humans. science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

Have you signed the petition yet to reschedule psilocybin? #PAR This would support that psilocybin does indeed have medical and therapeutic value, opening up the possiblity for more research and far greater access for people in the UK. @cdprguk petition.parliament.uk/petit…
All code as well as a jupyter notebook explaining the concepts are available at gitlab.com/marcoFabus/fabus2…. Thanks to all my co-authors for another fun collaboration! Excited to start 2022 by showing this to the world 🥳 7/7

Many thanks to reviewers for their time and helpful suggestions along the way with this one!
New paper!🧠🌊 Cross-frequency interactions in non-sinusoidal oscillations are ambiguous. This is b/c of harmonics, but what *exactly* is one? Read to find out! See preprint thread for more info, full paper includes cool new figures & open source tools⬇️ doi.org/10.1109/ojsp.2022.31…

(low-key proud of this one bc I got to cite Euler's 1768 paper and do some big boy Riemann Zeta function maths)
