We wholeheartedly welcome @Ed_Miliband’s call at the IMF & World Bank Meetings for urgent reform to the global financial system. Developing countries need fairer finance, debt relief and investment in climate resilience. 🌍 theguardian.com/politics/202…

Underrated element of the PM's speech, regardless of the popularity of proposals, is that the debate (for now at least) is being conducted on turf he's defined (triple lock, care, europe, PR), as opposed to Starmer Govt where it felt like others - mainly Reform - set the debate.

“If you come to us and tell us to do something because it’s fundamentally the right thing to do, you will have a hearing from this government purely on that basis” - my favourite quote from #LPC26. From the brilliant @kirstyjmcneill at @LabourCID @bondngo development rally

Was great to speak to @CompassOffice at this summer’s Change:NOW! gathering on the urgent need to inspire people with a positive, progressive vision for the future. @andyburnham put it powerfully throughout the Makerfield campaign: we have one more chance to get this right.
Change:NOW! was a historic, hopeful moment for progressives. On 30th May, we brought together 800+ campaigners, thinkers, politicians and activists to build the movement for a more democratic future. At a moment of profound political and economic division, we showed that the values that unite progressives are stronger than the forces pulling us apart. Together, we can build a bold, pragmatic agenda capable of uniting people against the far right.

I have to say I've been quite impressed with the comms cadence + media dominance Burnham has created in week one. Monday new government. Tuesday energy prices. Wednesday buses. And today business rates for pubs. All issues that are unusual in being both high salience + uncontroversial.
BREAKING: Andy Burnham announces business rates cut for pubs, clubs and live music venues Another 6am cost of living measure from the new PM - Number 10 saying they will introduce a 20% cut to biz rates bills, saving typical pub £1,100 next year The funding for it? No 10 says it will be 'fully funded' through reviewing current reliefs for businesses like vape shops, that 'do not make a positive contribution' Govt says it will also fund it by cracking down on businesses that use online marketplaces and exploit tax loopholes - this is currently subject to consultation
