This thread is great, and the word nurse could be replaced with many excellent clinical professions. We aren’t here for ego, it’s not even about us, it’s about the people we care for. Great thread 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 – at North West, England
Nurses who progress into advanced/consultant nursing practice threaten the status quo. They challenge the myth that nurses are simply passive handmaidens or angels who don't need a degree. Nursing is a self-governing & rapidly advancing profession. Let's talk about it. 1/14 🧵

As our summers get warmer some of our people have asked for shorts to be provided as part of our uniform. I’m pleased to say that #TeamWAST will soon be able to access shorts for use at work in the summer months to make working in the hot weather more comfortable.

Great opportunity to progress in research but remain clinical if you wish. Paramedic Senior Research Fellow 0.4 FTE working with a great team (I'm bias-it's my team😂). I'm committed to increasing opportunities to combine a research career with clinical so secondment is an option

Add in Independent Paramedic Prescribing to maximise impact of APPs in community & invest in upstream senior clinical decision making in contact centres. These are the answers to today’s emergency ambulance service challenges - not more ambulances taking more people to ED.

This is defo the right path to take. We’ve been training Masters’s level Advanced Paramedic Practitioners for years & see non-conveyance rates some 35/40% higher than a regular paramedic as more care episodes are safely closed in community. At scale - its the only way forward.
Paramedics will be pulled from the road and paid to study in a bid to free up ambulances. @msanto92 #9News

In my clinic intra-articular pathology & gluteal tendinopathy co-exist so commonly If a pt has lateral hip & groin pain, it’s not always a singular pathology; no rule to say you can’t have more than one problem Makes sense from a pathobiomechnical / loading perspective as well
If your patient with gluteal tendinopathy is slow to progress, there may be co-existing joint pathology contributing to the symptoms. Reassess. Additional elements may need to be added to the management plan for optimal non-surgical outcomes. #glutealtendinopathy #labraltear

This is Rick who before he died gave me my tent and told me to have an adventure. He was upset that he wasn’t leaving a legacy behind because he didn’t have a family. Rick, what a legacy! Today is for you

Not sure who needs to hear this, but not every elderly person who’s pyrexic/delirious/not coping at home has a UTI

Next issue that causes problems: antibiotics towards the end of life. Some patients/families face problems with clinicians saying it is "unethical" not to treat infections, despite this potentially being unwanted life prolonging treatment. @sarahmalik450 #MakingDyingBetter

My 42yr old twin brother died in ITU of COVID-19 last week. He died exactly 4 weeks after testing positive. He was the fittest, healthiest person I know. He was climbing Welsh mountains & wild camping 4 weeks before his death.

An exciting new paramedic role goes out to advert today. @WelshAmbulance and @SwanseabayNHS have teamed up to create something unique, a role that will help further enhance the care we provide to patients at the end of life through advanced or terminal illness.

Let me tell you something about (most) UK paramedics. When you ask them “how are you?” And they reply with the top drawer line of “living the dream” I promise you they most certainly aren’t living any dream at the moment.
