I’m just a Junior Doctor, standing in front of a Health Secretary, asking him to pay me as much as a Junior Doctor 15 years ago
I find running stroke calls stressful (partially for personal reasons) but the results you can achieve are staggering.
I thrombolysed someone with very significant disability, sent them for thrombectomy and they had an almost total resolution of symptoms.
Incredible medicine

Unpaid means you do whatever you want.
Personally I think human factors teaches us that every decision made overnight will be questionable, every procedure will be less safe. Anything that can safely be put off for the day should be.
If someone had theoretically written an opinion peace for the BMJ, how straightforward would it be to get it published?

I thought GP leaders said there was enough work for everyone?
Wasn’t that why we’ve been replacing GPs with “differently trained” non doctors?
It’s not like anyone with a modicum of foresight could have predicted this

If you allow other professions to do the work you do (albeit inferiorly) for less money, why would anyone be surprised that they get replaced by a cheapskate department of health?
@ClareGerada any ideas on fixes?
At Arrowe Park, the Trust has admitted that nurse consultants have been covering doctor shifts and carrying out work in place of medical consultants.
Patients deserve transparency about who is providing their care. We’ve written to the Trust asking why doctors are being replaced in this way.
If I were Nick Clegg, I would keep my mouth very shut on this issue.
I have a plan 2 and a post graduate loan, with the terms that his government established, my deductions this month are below.
I can’t believe his gall
"The system, as it's now evolved, is completely indefensible"
Sir Nick Clegg says he "would now be on the barricades advocating wholesale reform" of the tuition fees system "because how it's turned out is absolutely not how we introduced it"

All the time they’re paying physicians’ assistants more than doctors, the government’s position of “there’s no more money for doctors” is utterly untenable.

@Justinonweb asks new health secretary James Murray about whether he could increase the pay offer for resident doctors, ahead of fresh strike action later this month.

The amount that medical students now have to know is far more than we had to. The volume of knowledge has increased x4 in 35 years. Even if they learn and forget they build up an internal map and model of medicine which guides them long after and they can go refresh the details as needed. It is why we do anatomy and dissect and read big books. It is that internal map and model that others will never have.

I do wonder how the various professional healthcare bodies would respond - if doctors did a trunchated online programme around their areas of practice, described it as advanced then began filling their roles and describing their rotas as a blended skills rota.
A friend in a nearby hospital has told me their specialty has kicked specialty trainees out of their office, reserving it for ANPs.
A quote from a consultant “we’re hoping to phase out trainees from the service, and just have ANPs”
The ladder pulling is just unfathomable
