JOB OPPORTUNITY: Coral Husbandry Professionals – KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative, Saudi Arabia
The KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative (KCRI) is recruiting across a range of coral husbandry positions to support the operation of its new purpose-built coral nursery in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. Opportunities will span several career levels, from Associate Technician and Technician through to Specialist and Senior Specialist roles. The facility has been developed to support reef restoration at an unusually large scale, bringing together coral husbandry, industrial-scale aquaculture, environmental control, co-culture, life-support systems, digital monitoring and applied restoration science to support restoration efforts in the north-eastern Red Sea.
KCRI is seeking candidates with practical experience in coral husbandry, aquarium operations, aquaculture, coral nurseries, restoration programmes, research aquaria or related marine systems. Depending on the position, responsibilities may include coral handling and asexual propagation, coral health assessment, co-culture, feeding and tank hygiene, data recording, implementation of SOPs, team supervision and collaboration with science, restoration, operations and life-support teams. Candidates should be comfortable working carefully with live coral systems, recognising early signs of coral stress or decline and maintaining consistent husbandry standards. The roles offer coral aquarists, technicians, restoration practitioners and aquaculture professionals the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of a major large-scale coral nursery and reef restoration programme.
Positions are open until filled.
Interested candidates should email Asma Baslamah: [email protected], Cagdas Isik: [email protected] and Dave Hughes: [email protected] with their resume and cover letter.

Coral bleaching looks like a reef-scale catastrophe. But it starts as a breakdown between single cells.
Led by @AMBonacolta, we watched it at that scale for the first time: the first single-cell transcriptomics of a bleaching coral 🪸 #CoralReefs
