Check out @MarkPalermo 's and I latest @MoviesChaos episode where we discuss critics policing studio embargoes, Gen Z film bro bullies on Reddit (I have some strong thoughts about this) and our thoughts on YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING! open.spotify.com/episode/4hI…
Wouldn’t fascism be the opposite of that? Anyway, it’s hardly the first documentary premised on the unknowability of truth.
Do you guys have to get mad at everything? OBSESSION has obvious Lynch influence in some of its staging, even if it can’t meet the task. It’s also a weird knowledge flex since David Lynch is about the most well-known indie filmmaker for people under 40.

Carrie is not a "girlboss moment", it's a mass killing. It ought to convey the horror of a school shooting, hundreds of people trapped in a burning building. Were all of them bullies? No. What the original did really well was the horror of realising what was about to unfold.

Michael Mann recutting Miami Vice is hitting like 9/11 for a certain kind of middle aged white guy.

The thing about Don’t Look Up is that it also satirizes itself, but it’s a gag that takes half-a-minute instead 2 hours of reassertion of that point and is even more vicious about how its liberal self-deprecation barely moves a needle to save the world.
The weirdest common take on DIGGER is that it’s making fun of DON’T LOOK UP for not changing the world, when it’s verbally about the societal need for movies like that. Five years later and establishment libs are still furious at that movie for making fun of them.
Guns N’ Roses are less a last stand for hair metal and more a precursor to grunge.
There’s more lineage in their lyrics to Alice in Chains and Soundgarden than to Poison and Ratt.
Gen Z are always saying shit like “My dad listened to so much Skrillex when I was growing up.” It’s all lies to make everyone else feel like they’re a thousand.
I feel that naps are too normalized. Grown ups just taking naps every single day. Do you turn off the light and put your head on a desk? Get real.
One thing I’m grateful for is I never had to conform. I’ve always been weird people, and somehow was accepted as cool without changing myself to fit in. For that reason, I feel protective of other weird people and always side-eye the intentions of normies calling people weird.

Whenever I make one of my independent movies, my credit cards max out and my FICO score goes lower than Zimbabwe. It's gratifying that DETENTION is still being discovered 15 years later.
I never judge people who don’t smile in pictures. They could be sad about photography. You don’t know.
One of the funniest things on the old DEGRASSI is the emotional whiplash of how episodes ended. Someone would walk in on their friend who had just killed themself, it would freeze frame on their shocked expression, cue bright bouncy theme song “Wake up in the morning…”

That would be establishing a theme or setting a tone. You can’t have an entirely meaningless scene, or you wouldn’t have filmed it in the first place. You’re trying to do something with everything that makes it into a movie. Scenes don’t just spontaneously appear out of thin air.
“Without a purpose” is the wrong phrase. It’s true that people can get too hung up on story mechanics. Every scene is there to serve the experience.
