Was this guy seriously a professional referee?
🗣️ "It's not violent conduct!"
Ex-Premier League referee @RefereeHalsey says Max Dowman was very unlucky to receive a red card against Fleetwood Town last night.

Viera was said to have been extremely money oriented, so it’s not beyond the reams of possibilities that for the right offer it might have happened.
This is spot on from Henry 👏👏👏👏
Max Dowman: some thoughts. A little bit of understanding and support would not go amiss for a targeted teenager who wants to play the game the right way, who doesn’t roll around on the ground when struck by a bad challenge, and he gets hit by a few. Officials take note. Coaches take note. There’s a balance with young talents of toughening them up physically and mentally while protecting them. There's a balance between admonishment for a mistake and encouragement to learn.
Everyone wants to see Dowman fulfil his huge potential and develop into a major player for Arsenal and, eventually, England. Dowman is a special young talent, still only 16, still with the ink drying on his GCSE papers. He's still a kid, still learning. There have been (premature) calls for Dowman to be fast-tracked into England Under-21s, even the seniors. A month ago Thomas Tuchel and Lee Carsley conferred on Dowman and sensibly agreed his development would best be served by games with the Under-19s. “Max is always in the conversation because of his talent,” Carsley said.
That talent has seen Dowman become the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer, become the youngest player in the Champions League, and also get targeted. He gets a kicking, nine times in an Under-19s international against Spain last year. On returning to Arsenal, Dowman was encouraged by his manager Mikel Arteta to learn from Bukayo Saka about the art of dealing with such aggression. It was all about avoiding contact and “to learn when to release the ball”. Arteta also praised Dowman’s “football IQ” with the “super smart” way he makes decisions, praise indeed. It’s impressive in one so young.
His two red cards this month, one for England Under-19s against the USA behind closed doors in Marbella and now for Arsenal against Fleetwood Town, need placing in context. Trend or blip? Dowman, who usually has a composed temperament, suffered a number of robust challenges from the USA when he snapped and put in a strong challenge of his own. Some of those present in the game felt it was only a yellow. Dowman's not a petulant player, but his frustration spilled over at the aggression put in on him.
Similar to last night. There were some robust League Two challenges going in from Fleetwood players on the English champions' winger, testing his temperament, and after 85 minutes he reacted. The focus was on his silly kick out towards Harrison Neal, a soft red but still a red under the Laws, when the focus should also have been on Neal’s challenge which could have injured Dowman. No card was issued against Neal.
Michael Salisbury is an experienced referee, 16 years on the list, including now five years in the Premier League. Like all officials, Salisbury has a duty of care to all players to ensure they are not put at risk by bad challenges. Neal got the ball but the force and pace of his follow-through endangered Dowman, whose standing foot was momentarily trapped. Dowman, any player, deserved some protection from challenges like that.
He also deserved some compassion from Arteta. It’s one thing having strong words in passing if a senior player was trooping off, red-carded, down the tunnel. But Dowman is 16, probably still fuming with the tackle on him, and frustration at dismissal and inevitable feeling of letting the team down. Dowman didn’t need the most important person in his professional life, Arteta, to compound his misery with a frosty few words as he headed towards the tunnel. He's 16. He wasn't being petulant. He was reacting to a bad challenge.
Maybe Arteta was trying to make the point again about Dowman having to withstand such tackles, and not reacting. Arteta told reporters after the game that he had spoken pre-match to Dowman and the other players of the need for emotional control in such an intense occasion.
Fair enough, Dowman will learn. Whatever Arteta's frustration, it felt harsh and small-minded by such a successful, established manager. Officials take note too. It’s worth recalling that Arteta’s club contacted the authorities when they felt Saka was being targeted with bad challenges. Talents - all players - deserve protection. #AFC
We are all human and we all make mistakes.
Arteta made a big mistake last night and hopefully he has realised it and apologised to Max and his family.

Career ending tackle and it was Max Dowman who received the red card.
Mikel Arteta was fuming with the 16-year-old.
The Arsenal players were right there to defend him.
Shocking decision.

We had last night in Dublin an Irish musical version of one of the Nuremberg Rallies of the 1930s.
Manipulated, indoctrinated, excited young people, who know little of the history & complexity of Israel/Palestinian conflict, the demonic slaughter that took place at the Nova Music festival, Hamas promises to repeat it & Hamas refusing to disarm & obstructing a UN sanctioned peace process, drinking the Cool Aid of Israel & Jew Hate.
All hidden behind a beguiling “ Free Palestine” slogan that calls for the eradication of the worlds only Jewish state & either the extermination of 8 million Jewish Israelis, half of world Jewry, or their expulsion to an unknown destination.
And I once wondered how come the vast majority of Germans adopted, embraced & celebrated Hitlers Jew hating Nazi ideology during the 1930s. The exuberant excitement & dancing at Dublin’s 3 Arena gives all the insight required to understand it all.
And, of course, RTE promoted the event not only on the Late Late Show but also on its news website & following its conclusion gave it an ecstatic news slot on Radio One’s Morning Ireland.
A public service insight into today’s Ireland.
And he’s not a winger!
🚨 Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Noni Madueke suffered an ankle injury, ruling him out of today's game against Fleetwood Town.
Bukayo Saka is already out for 5–7 weeks, Christos Tzolis is still sidelined with a muscle injury, Madueke has now joined the injury list, and Max Dowman is facing a three-match suspension.
That leaves us with ONE available winger: Eberechi Eze.

Genuine leg-breaker stuff here... The reaction was poor, but carding the victim, not the thug, is outrageous.

No. The British people do not want Gazan students.
Most, if not all, will have been taught to hate Jews since the crib.
We have a crisis of antisemitism - we should not be endangering more British Jews.
🚨#BREAKING:
The British government announces it will start issuing expedited visas to Gazan students so they can move to the UK & study at British Universities.
The UK will also "establish a permanent framework for more refugee students to come study in the UK"

Still gutted of course, but this manager of Fleetwood is a smashing guy so congratulations to him and his team 👏👏👏

🚨 Arsène Wenger on Arsenal players being left out of the Ballon d’Or top 10:
🗣️ Arsène Wenger: “No Arsenal player finished in the top 10. Declan Rice is fifteenth. William Saliba is joint twenty-ninth. That is the ranking. These players spent the season in the Premier League and the Champions League. They faced the strongest opposition in Europe every week. They were not peripheral. They were central to results against the best teams. Their performances were consistent and they were decisive in matches that mattered. Yet they are outside the top 10.
“Michael Olise finished ninth. Lionel Messi finished fifth. Olise played at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. He was one of the most important players in that league. He created chances, he scored, he influenced games at a high level. Messi played at Inter Miami in MLS. The standard of opposition is different. The physical demands are different. The pressure is different. Still, Messi is fifth and Olise is ninth. Arsenal’s players, who competed in a more demanding environment, finished behind both.
“Rice was asked to control the midfield against top sides in England and Europe. He did that repeatedly. Saliba was asked to defend against the best attackers in those competitions. He did that at a high level. These were not isolated performances. They were sustained across a full season of difficult matches. The ranking places them outside the top 10 while placing a player from MLS above them and above Olise.
“The Ballon d’Or is presented as a recognition of the best seasons. These positions do not reflect the seasons Arsenal’s players had. They do not reflect the level of football they played. They do not reflect the quality of opposition they faced week after week. The list puts Messi fifth, Olise ninth, and Arsenal players outside the top 10. That is the outcome of the voting.
“People will point to reputation or individual moments. Those factors exist. They do not explain why players who performed consistently in the Premier League and Champions League finish below someone who was in MLS. They do not explain why Olise, who was central to Bayern’s season, sits below Messi. The ranking does not align with the demands of the seasons.
“This is what the voters produced. No Arsenal player in the top 10. Rice fifteenth. Saliba joint twenty-ninth. Olise ninth. Messi fifth. The football played by Arsenal’s players does not support those positions. The ranking stands as it is. It does not match the year they had.”
