Sounds familiar
Even with me pushing for the old Studley community centre to remain as a community asset and be used by local youth groups as a community centre, from the moment I became a county councillor the Reform led county council have decided to just auction it off. I am apoplectic. Renting it to local community groups would have kept income over many years but instead they want a one off payment for some reason. Removing community assets while making short term financial decisions. . . I'm glad I left @reformparty_uk more and more, Because this is shameful. brutonknowles.co.uk/.../the-…...

With regard to Cavendish Road car park “Councils can dispose of land "for less than the best consideration that can reasonably be obtained" without needing consent from the secretary of state if the value is £2m or below.”

Closing the car park has caused all sorts of problems for pedestrians. Around 35 cars have been displaced & they have literally nowhere to go. Coupled with a pavement width which can’t comply with current standards, this closure of the car park has had serious knock on effects.

We want to hear about experiences as users of Cavendish & surrounding roads. We’re not focused on pot holes! But would like to know how you fare as regular road & pavement users Survey matlockclt.uk/survey/?fbclid…

Well done to the council that recognizes community space and engages with it’s community. Something @Derbyshirecc knows nothing about!

We hope @Derbyshirecc were listening? They don’t appear to be hearing us @CommLandTrusts
CLTs across England are already revitalising our failing high streets, bringing real community wealth and cohesion - but their successes have been hard won. This new Community Right to Buy could make their path to community ownership and agency much easier - a real win!

Insights from our Community Housing Fund review will form part of our campaigning for new funding so CLTs can deliver homes that: - bolster national affordable housing goals - often in underserved places - often get more public support - generate community wealth and cohesion
A little sneak preview of a review of the Community Housing Fund, which we find has helped almost 1k homes get built or under construction, and 2/3rds have secured sites & planning consents. Will @mtpennycook/@AngelaRayner build on this success to grow supply in a v.popular way?

This is incredibly disappointing. We cannot build enough social homes as a by-product of private development - even if 1.5m over 5 years is achieved. More social housing grant is needed - it is great capital investment, pays for itself, and will save revenue spending as well.
Rachel Reeves asked about whether the Government will actually invest any more public money in building homes, replies, "We need the private sector to build homes. We're not going to be in the business of building those homes directly".

I'd add that at @CommLandTrusts we have found the current planning system now adds more than £10k to the cost of each home on small affordable housing projects, often more than the land!

Something that regularly crops up with @CommLandTrusts projects is the aspiration to build #lowcarbon as well as #affordablehousing Watch this space with plans in the pipeline for our collaboration with @YCEnergy & @loficoho to deliver community owned renewable energy 😀 #CLTs
The project is a collaboration between @Yorspace @loficoho & @YCEnergy Details here: yorspace.org/lowfield-green/ Starting onsite soon. We'd love to know more about #zerobills

We were so disappointed to hear @Keir_Starmer on @BBCPanorama how he would treat communities in planning reforms as enemies with disrepect and disdain. Does @UKLabour really support the volume housebuilders over local people? Sign our letter below 👇 docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

With estimates showing that just 1% of land owners control half the land in England #BuildingwithCommunities is exploring the communities taking back their agency to collectively own land for rewilding, ecological farming and nature stewardship. Register: bit.ly/BWCom2024
