“Whoever is handing Putin the gift of a more vulnerable Ukraine should at least have the guts to put their name on it. Hiding behind denials while innocent people pay the price is cowardice.”
The shifting explanations from Musk and the administration sound like Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First?” Except the consequences for Ukrainian civilians are deadly. Musk says he didn’t do it. The administration says it didn’t either. Yet someone in the administration reportedly told Musk to undo it, and Ukraine reports only partial restoration. Are we supposed to believe Hegseth and the Pentagon don’t know the status of a capability critical to U.S., Ukrainian and allied security? Whoever is handing Putin the gift of a more vulnerable Ukraine should at least have the guts to put their name on it. Hiding behind denials while innocent people pay the price is cowardice. Meanwhile, Putin keeps murdering civilians and trying to starve and freeze Ukraine into submission. Americans deserve answers. Ukrainians deserve the means to defend themselves.

Hes a sociopath, which makes him symptomatic of systemic rot, but also, in his position, causal of its acceleration. He enables brutality. And, goaded by his malign wingman, if he doesn’t start an idiotically splendid little war vs Iran, it’s just another midterm. Still might be
Q: Amy Acton's stepfather was indicted for rape. Now that you know all that, sir, do you change your mind about the ad? Trump: No. I don't care

A head-turning new "Michigan First" ad from @AbdulElSayed - he names some issue he agrees with MAGA voters on, then plays a supercut of Fox News hosts/Tucker praising him or bashing Mike Rogers. semafor.com/article/10/23/20…

I've been writing about Ed White all day and I can't remember the last time I had this much fun writing (let me say again that writing by hand has changed my life)

What is the oldest political news story you can remember? For me it's Joe Biden being selected as Obama's VP.

For various reasons I was re-reading Ed introduction to the third volume of Isherwood's diaries, which is how I noticed Hitchens wrote the preface the the second volume of Isherwood's diaries—something of a curious choice IMO

There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.

Thank you to @KatrinaNation and @thenation for publishing my piece on the 10th anniversary of Tom Hayden's death. As caricatures of the New Left become more prevalent, reexamining his life offers a better understanding of the social movements of the 1960s thenation.com/article/politi…

This afternoon, we toured the infrastructure of occupation in the West Bank: Settler outposts that uproot groves full of olive trees & steal Palestinian land. Gates arbitrarily closed by Israeli forces, forcing Palestinian villages to transfer construction supplies and bulk goods by hand. Separation barriers that divide communities, and sometimes fully surround a single house. Segregated roads for Palestinians and Israelis. Features of apartheid, as B’tselem, Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, Yesh Din and the ICJ rightly identify. It’s long past time to stop the settlements and end the occupation. Great Britain recently announced a settlement trade ban & sanctions. Congress should pass @JoaquinCastrotx's bill to do the same.

Creating life-changing experiences for students was not considered valuable. The strong endorsement I got from Blaine and other colleagues was not valuable. A professor making $68k is disposable. A rancid and underperforming D1 sports program is essential.

It's insane to think this, but it's also insane that the messaging inspiring such reactions are validated and shared by a fair number of Democrats. I genuinely can't wrap my head around fearing AES this much (or at all, frankly)
As I followed pro-El-Sayed Jewish canvasses, I found evidence that Rogers’s ethnic divide-and-conquer strategy was working with at least some Jews. Some expressed outright fear, with one saying that “if Abdul wins, there’s going to be another Holocaust.” jewishcurrents.org/in-michig…

Anyone who posts like this about how "no one cares or should care" about Israel/Palestine are only loudly announcing how much *they* care but are upset with the current direction of public opinion.
Gaza, or anything having to do with Israel, is only the "biggest foreign policy issue" of our time if you're Jewish, Palestinian, or antisemitic.

This is the image Trump wants from a papal visit. And this is a reason Pope Leo won't come while Trump is in the Oval Office.
Sickening. History will judge this, and it will not be merciful. If Trump asked for them to pray over him, and they agreed, it should have been held in private, to avoid what will now happen -- the instrumentalization of this video in the mid-terms.

I'm very alarmed that you haven't shown more support for the five nonnegotiables, a thing I invented just now
University of Michigan freshman Robert Kashan is one of many Jewish Michiganders who are alarmed that Dr. El-Sayed hasn't shown more support for the five nonnegotiables. To Robert, these aren't crazy demands. They're a simple ask: affirmation of the same dignity, safety, and self-definition every other community receives, and the same legitimacy for Jewish statehood that every other nation receives. Robert remains hopeful about the next couple of weeks. He is inviting Dr. El-Sayed to engage directly with his concerns and demonstrate with words and conduct that he understands and respects our community’s baseline needs.
