妻の浮気を疑ってDNA鑑定をした夜、返ってきた結果を見た妻が、泣くどころか静かに言った。

結婚12年目の火曜日、午前2時17分。玄関の鍵が、音を殺すようにゆっくり回った。
私は暗いリビングで、ソファに座ったまま待っていた。
帰ってきた妻の絵里から、知らない香水の匂いがした。
「……起きてたの？」
「残業って言ってたよな」
「うん。ごめんね。クライアントと食事してて」
嘘だとすぐにわかった。
絵里は嘘をつくとき、必ず左手の薬指の指輪を回す。この12年間、何度も見てきた癖だった。
それから絵里の行動は目に見えて変わった。
スマホを裏返して置く。風呂にまで持ち込む。着信があるたびに、画面を隠して廊下へ出る。
連絡先には「H」とだけ登録された番号があった。
3週間後の土曜日、「友達とランチ」と言って出かけた絵里の後を、私は車でつけた。
着いた先はシティホテルのラウンジだった。
窓際の席には、40代半ばくらいの男が座っていた。
絵里は男の向かいに座ると、突然、両手で顔を覆って泣き出した。
男は黙って手を伸ばし、絵里の手を包んだ。
私はスマホで写真を撮った。指が震えて、どれもまともに写っていなかった。
家に帰ると、小学4年生の息子、悠斗がリビングでブロックを組んでいた。
「お父さん、おかえり！見て、お城できた！」
屈託のない笑顔だった。
その夜、悠斗が寝たあと、私は妻のヘアブラシから髪の毛を数本採取した。
そして、自分の頬の内側を綿棒でこすった。
自分でも、何をしているのかわからなかった。
ただ、どうしても確かめたかった。
悠斗は、本当に私の子どもなのか。

Dear Anne,
I'm writing this because I can't say it out loud yet, and I don't want you to find out any way except from me.
You married a man who splits his own firewood, who knows every trail within fifty miles, and who cries only at movies about dogs. All of that is real. I'm not going to tell you it was a costume, because it wasn't. I love the outdoors. I love our kids so much it scares me. I love our life.
But since I was small, there's been another thing underneath, and I never had a name for it. I'd watch women in a room and feel something I couldn't explain, a pull toward being them rather than being near them. I thought it would fade. Then I thought it was shameful.
Then I got so good at hiding it that I almost believed it was gone.
It isn't gone. And I'm not telling you this because something is wrong with us. For the first time in my life, I'm not tired of being alive. Our family and this home made that possible, and it gave me enough safety to finally look at the thing I've been avoiding.
I don't know what it means yet. I'm not announcing a plan or asking you to decide anything tonight. I might want to explore it quietly, or talk to someone who knows more than I do, or just be allowed to say it to the person I trust most.
I know this may feel like it shakes the ground you stand on, and I'm sorry for the fear it could bring. I want you to hear that I'm still the man who makes your coffee at 5 a.m., and I'm still yours.
Whatever you need to feel, I'll listen. Take as long as you want.
I love you. I'm tired of hiding, and I wanted you to be the first to know.

The marketing for “Ebenezer” is bizarre.
Why is the trailer reminding us of the characters Johnny Depp has played? Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, and the Mad Hatter. The Mad Hatter performance was abysmal, but I understand the decision to include it because of Alice in Wonderland’s box office success.
But why are they telling us who he’s played before? To remind us that he’s a big movie star? Are we supposed to see his name above the title and go, “Who??? Oh yeah, the guy from those movies. Welp, I’m sold!”
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a trailer that brings up characters the lead actor has played to sell a movie. I suppose it’s an attempt to distract from his recent controversies by reinforcing the idea that he’s an iconic screen actor.🤺

I stopped cooking for my husband because he refused to give me his mother's house, and I don't see why everyone is making me look like the villain.
I'm 35, and my husband is 41. We've been married for six years.
My husband's mother passed away two years ago, leaving behind a three-bedroom house in a decent neighbourhood.
My husband and his younger sister are the only children.
Naturally, I assumed the house would eventually become part of our family property.
I even started planning what I would do with it. I wanted to renovate the kitchen, change the furniture and turn one of the bedrooms into my personal office.
Then my husband announced that he intended to give the house to his younger sister.
Apparently, she had been taking care of their mother before she died, and he felt she deserved it.
I couldn't believe him.
I asked whether he had forgotten that he was married and had a family of his own.
He said his sister had sacrificed a lot and that the house was legally hers according to their mother's wishes.
I told him that was a ridiculous decision.
His sister was unmarried, had no children and was perfectly capable of renting an apartment.
Why should she inherit an entire house while I continued living in a property that wasn't even in my name?
I told my husband I wouldn't accept it.
He said the matter was settled.
So I stopped cooking for him.
I also stopped doing his laundry and told him he could handle his own household responsibilities since he apparently wanted to make important decisions without considering me.
He laughed at first.
