New publication out now in @JPR_journal! Who sits in authoritarian parliaments? My article "Parliamentary Elites in Authoritarian Regimes (PEAR): New Data" introduces a dataset that answers this question for 133 autocracies from 1945 to 2024. academic.oup.com/jpr/advance…

This will be very useful for quant studies of authoritarian legislatures. Always funny to see how much female representation has been taken on as a means of nominal descriptive representation / legitimacy efforts in non-democracies since the 1990s.
New dataset alert⚠️Wiebrecht introduces the Parliamentary Elites in Authoritarian Regimes (PEAR) dataset, covering over 230,000 MP observations across 133 regimes. doi.org/10.1093/jopres/xjag0…

New paper with @ProkopetsJake and Raymond Kim!! Every scientific paper has TWO teams. One is listed on the title page. The other is invisible: colleagues who challenge ideas, catch mistakes, and help make the research better. Our new paper suggests AI may be making that invisible team smaller.🧵

My job market paper is now out in @World_Pol muse.jhu.edu/article/997115! Why do some small states excel in IO politics, when theory tells us that powerful states should dominate? I argue and show that small state diplomats outperform their peers because they are more experienced!

🚨 New publication: My contribution to @IEMed_'s Mediterranean Yearbook 2026. In this chapter, I examine if #Lebanon's current reform moment represents a genuine opportunity for change or another episode of resilience by its entrenched political system. 🔗 iemed.org/publication/from-c…
Is #Lebanon at the dawn of a genuine opening with the coincidence of a new #reformist executive, a weakened #Hezbollah and a state apparatus with access to international financing? Read @MerayMaddah's contribution to the #MedYearbook2026 🌐 iemed.org/publication/from-c…

Why do arguments often change people’s beliefs without changing their attitudes? In a new APSR with @PatrickPLiu and Scott Clifford, we point to belief relevance: arguments are more persuasive when they grapple with the idiosyncratic reasons people hold their political views.

“Just collect more data” is one of the most common responses to uncertainty in quantitative research. But in a lot of social science, that advice is impossible—or even misleading. Our new working paper asks: when has a study reached its information limit?

"Writing is hard." Thrilled to share that this simple idea led to a new paper in @polanalysis. Most text methods focus on content. I test if expression is also effortful action and find measures like character counts reveal attitudes and predict voting. cup.org/4cUmoXi 1/
