Look back at the last EF5 tornado to strike our planet. May 20, 2013.
I didn’t have a good camera then, but here are some “cleaned up” images I snapped between my live reports
Timeline shows the progress. From a cone to a monster

Quick meteorological breakdown of the surprise, potentially strong tornado that just occurred near Salt Lake City, UT. We'll discuss the background pattern, the near-storm environment, and some fascinating radar data to come up with some reasons why this tornado may have occurred where it did.
Thank you for sharing!!
As AC/DC once said, “Thunder (ah-ah, ah-ah-ah)” ⛈️
Photographer/meteorologist @MichaelSeger captured this stormy view of NSF @KittPeakNatObs. Arizona’s monsoon season continues through September, bringing rain to the Sonoran Desert AND a break from the heat.

Dr. Ryan Meldrum and I have begun tabulating the data from the survey many of you graciously took a few weeks back on risk perception in storm chasing. In the graphic below are some initial demographic insights on the overall storm chaser sample, which featured 391 respondents. These are the first findings of many from this survey; we'll now be digging into the risk perception data and hope to have some conclusions from that soon. Stay tuned!

Boulder Flatirons Bolt!
Its taken a good bit of patience to achieve this shot. Timing always seemed to not work out. Sunday night, that changed! Green Mountain took this direct hit from a CG illuminating the Flatirons West of Boulder!

Found our good luck charm to capture CGs! Great meeting the man , the myth, the legend @MichaelSeger out near Eloy last night!
An AWESOME trip! Saw a bit of everything you could ask for!
Heading back to Oklahoma today and will likely be in the office tracking severe storms on Thursday.
And that's a wrap for chasecation 2026!! We worked *hard*, but this was my best 10-day trip in 10 years by virtue of daily action, number of storms, tornadoes, and variety of good photography. Special thanks to my chase partner @MichaelSeger 🌪🌪

I do not want to be a part of a world that has become lobotomized to reality by social media and AI slop. I do not want my children to grow up in a world completely detached from reality.
We have come to a point where the largest 'Science' and 'Astronomy' accounts, with very few exceptions, are spewing massive amounts of AI slop and misinformation. Lying & monetizing it. When an account is hit with enough community notes they should be banned. They are doing enormous damage to science and the public!
