You resigned in disgrace ten months ago, caught underpaying £40,000 in stamp duty on your £800,000 flat, found to have breached the Ministerial Code. You dealt your way back by backing Burnham, but notice what you didn't get. He made Louise Haigh his enforcer while you got your old Housing Secretary job back, demoted and diminished.
Now you prance about with jazz hands celebrating "historic new powers" for Sadiq Khan over nightclub licensing while the country cannot get GP appointments, cannot afford housing, and watches its communities transformed without consent. You are not a Deputy Prime Minister anymore. You are a cautionary tale with a reduced security pass, a disgraced tax-dodger rehabilitated by backroom bargain.
Your "comeback" is an insult to every honest taxpayer you short-changed. Go dance with your friend. The adults are watching, remembering, and preparing the invoice.
A pleasure to join my friend @MayorofLondon today to celebrate the beating heart of London’s nightlife.
We’re giving the Mayor historic new powers over licensing decisions to keep the capital buzzing, supporting jobs and growth. 🎷🎵

Just a quick reminder…
Your parents won’t see you grow old.
Your partner will never know you as a child.
Your children will not remember you young.
You are the only person who will witness every version of yourself from beginning to the end, so take care of yourself my friend.
Value yourself. Love yourself deeply, because you are your only lifelong companion.
Love you.

England’s Pride and Glory by Thomas Davidson
The Tomb of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson ⚓️
I am very rarely starstruck, let alone within the presence of the dead. Having grown up in and around London, I have seen and ignored many famous people and so-called celebrities.
But, when I stood in front of Nelson's tomb, I felt my very soul reach beyond its usual parameter. Though I know he existed, history often decreases our brains ability to truly separate reality from fiction.
Knowing he's in there didn't only make me feel closer to the man himself, but his legacy and the people who lived to see it take shape.
To know that he was laid here as a result of his heroic death leading the British Navy into the Battle of Trafalgar (1805) leaves one both silent and awe struck.
We've all seen his Monument at Trafalgar square (named after the battle that took his life), but to stand by his burial place is a very different experience altogether.
It matters not if we agree with everything that took place during his lifetime, but what does matter is understanding the grit and heroism required to have seen it all through.
I have very few heroes, but I knew I was looking at one in this moment.
I also consider the men who signed up or who were forced to fight in death defying conditions in order to maintain British dominance at sea. Be they strangers or our own family members, it's tombs like this that help us connect with the people who lived through adventures we're still studying centuries later.
The following is a contemporary account of Nelson's body being brought back to England for his preparation and state funeral.
"After the battle of Trafalgar, the corpse of the ever-to-be-lamented Admiral Lord Nelson was placed in spirits for the purpose of being conveyed to his native land.
It was at first the intention of Lord Collingwood to send home the body in the Euryalus; but the crew of the Victory manifested the strongest reluctance to part with the precious relic.
They remonstrated against its removal, through the medium of the Boatswain's Mate, and urged a plea that could not be resisted: 'The noble Admiral (they said) had fought with them, and fell on their own deck.
If by being put on board a frigate, his remains should fall into the hands of the enemy, their loss would be doubly grievous; and therefore they were resolved, one and all, to carry it in safety to England, or to go to the bottom with their sacred charge.'"
From January 5th to the 7th, 1806, the coffin was displayed under a velvet canopy in the Painted Hall at Greenwich Hospital.
On January 8th, 1806, the coffin was placed aboard King Charles II's royal state barge upon which is was transported up the River Thames from Greenwich to Whitehall.
On January 9th, 1806, a huge military and naval procession escorted the coffin on a grand funeral car modelled after HMS Victory to St. Paul's Cathedral, where it's been ever since.
The sleek black marble sarcophagus surrounding the coffin was originally commissioned in the 1520s by Cardinal Wolsey for himself. It later fell under the ownership of King Henry VIII before eventually being gifted by King George III for Nelson's entombment.
The sarcophagus is topped with Nelson's viscount coronet and is situated in the central chamber of Europe's largest cathedral crypt.
His body rests within a wooden coffin that was crafted from the mainmast of L'Orient, the French flagship destroyed at the Battle of the Nile in 1798. Nelson had, in a fatalistic fashion, kept this coffin behind his own desk.
As this subject and my take on it could extend a great deal, I shall leave it there and hope that you'll understand why I find being in this crypt such an emotional experience.
Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Baron Nelson of the Nile and of Burnham Thorpe, 1st Duke of Bronte. ⚓️
Thank you for reading. I hope this will lead you to seek out the tomb for yourself, or at least share this post to help others do so 🤝

The Muslim Brotherhood is planning its own funeral, and it is a FAKE one. Sources quoted by Al Ain News on 26 October say younger members asked the London faction led by Salah Abdel Haq to dissolve the organisation and quit politics while keeping its outreach and education work, because they fear the European Parliament's October resolution could bring arrests and restrictions in EU countries.
London and Istanbul replied that the structure's survival is a "red line", and experts in the same report say the real idea is to keep the organisation and build new fronts that sell its ideas with no declared link.
So, Europe, when the Brotherhood says it no longer exists, check who still pays the rent.
BTW, the Muslim Brotherhood is banned in the UAE.

The afterlife. Arrivals, 2026. A man of forty-four comes through the gate and finds his ancestors waiting for him.
Grandad: "You're early, lad."
Vegan: "Early? People used to die at thirty-five."
Grandad: "I was eighty-one. She was ninety. He's the youngest of us and he had the Black Death and a landlord. So. What was it?"
Vegan: "Heart, apparently. Which is mad, because I was plant-based for twelve years. No meat, no dairy. Lentils, oats, beans. I ate the way humans ate for most of history."
Grandad: "Did you hear that? He ate like us. On purpose."
Medieval peasant: "What was in your pot?"
Vegan: "Lentils. Beans. Oats in the morning."
Medieval peasant: "Peas, beans and oats, one pot, every day of my life. We called it pottage and it killed me at forty. Who's your lord?"
Vegan: "I don't have a lord."
Medieval peasant: "Then who was eating the deer?"
Vegan: "Nobody. Beef was in every shop. I chose not to."
Medieval peasant: "A free deer, and he ate the pottage. Four hundred years of this family dreaming of the lord's table and the first one who gets to sit at it orders the peas."
Vegan: "Red meat is linked to heart disease and cancer. The science is pretty clear."
Medieval peasant: "Whose science?"
Vegan: "The government's. There's an official plate."
Medieval peasant: "The lord had an official plate. It had a swan on it."
Highland crofter: "Milk?"
Vegan: "Oat milk."
Highland crofter: "What in God's name is an oat milk?"
Vegan: "Oats soaked in water and strained. Dairy's inflammatory and it's cruel to the cows."
Highland crofter: "That's thin porridge. I had porridge three times a day while the laird's cattle were driven past my door to market. Was there a cow where you lived?"
Vegan: "Thousands."
Highland crofter: "Thousands of cows, and my descendant is standing here telling me he drank the oats. On the cow's behalf."
Irish tenant's wife: "What happened when the lentils ran out?"
Vegan: "They never did. The shops are full."
Irish tenant's wife: "I watched the beef go up the gangplank for England with soldiers on either side while my children ate grass. You had the beef in a shop, with no soldiers, and you left it there."
Vegan: "Cattle are destroying the planet. Methane. There was a whole UN conference on it."
Grandad: "What did they eat at the conference?"
Vegan: "I didn't check."
Grandad: "We did. We get the telly up here. Beef."
Vegan: "I covered my nutrition with supplements. B12, iron, vitamin D, zinc, omega-3."
Grandad: "That's a Sunday roast in tablet form. Who sold you the tablets?"
Vegan: "A plant-based company."
Grandad: "Course they did."
Vegan: "Look, the point is I chose this. None of you had a choice. That's the difference."
Medieval peasant: "That's the exact bit none of us can get past, boy. Every soul in this family ate the plants because the man above him kept the animal. You had the animal put in front of you and you handed it back."
Vegan: "Plant-based is actually more expensive now. I paid more for the lentils than beef costs."
Irish tenant's wife: "You paid extra. For the famine."
Vegan: "It's ethical."
Highland crofter: "So said the laird, every rent day."
Vegan: "I'm sorry, but none of you understand modern nutrition."
Grandad: "You're forty-four and the whole family's come down to the gate. Which of us is it that doesn't understand?"
Grandad: "Come on. Your nan's done a joint."
Vegan: "I don't eat beef."
Grandad: "Every one of us ate what you ate, and every one of us would have swapped it for what you were offered. Sit down. It's what your ancestors ate, the one day they were allowed."

November is Islamophobia Awareness Month. Good. Let us do some awareness of our own.
A girl's tongue nailed to the table for threatening to talk. A kettle of boiling water held over a pinned down girl's face. Another threatened with a gun to blow her face off. A girl told her family would have their throats cut and be decapitated. Oxford victims scratched, choked, beaten, branded, burnt, gang raped, assaulted with knives and a baseball bat. Girls locked in bedsits like animals, no food, no toilet. Deliberate addiction to hard drugs and alcohol. Pregnancy as punishment, then backstreet abortions. A 13 year old found on examination to have been raped more than 50 times. A 12 year old, Samantha, abducted in Oldham, thrown out of a moving car, then locked in a room and raped by five men for nearly 24 hours. Another 12 year old was doused in petrol and told she would burn if she talked.
Now the pattern. Average age of the convicted, 29. Most of them married. Most of them with daughters the same age. Not confused boys. Grown men who knew. Mainly from Pakistan.
For a quarter of a century the word was racist. Not a case, not a report, not a counter argument. Just the word, thrown at every parent, every councillor, every copper and every journalist. It worked. Councils wrote reports commanding that culture must not be mentioned. Police told mothers to do the detective work themselves. The victims were called prostitutes. The Crown Prosecution Service refused to take Rochdale in 2009.
A twenty minute film was made for exactly this, paid for by the state, trialled in a few Sheffield schools and left on a shelf for nearly twenty years. The man in it is Asian, not even Muslim, and still that was too much.
Meanwhile the borders are wide open and the queue keeps growing. Eritrean, Sudanese, Afghan, Somali, Kurdish, Albanian and Roma names now sit in the conviction lists alongside the Pakistani ones. But the boats bring more than rapists. Two IRGC operatives who arrived by small boat were charged in 2026 with plotting an attack on Jewish targets in Manchester. An Iraqi already convicted of Islamic State membership came in on the identical route. Nineteen suspected of terrorist activity, some with Daesh links, were picked out of Channel arrivals, and officials admit Islamic State fighters could use it too. Every new cohort brings its own version of the con, and nobody at the top is counting.
Islamophobic is the new word doing the old job. It is not an argument. It is a stop sign. For twenty-five years the pattern was known, the reports were written and the cases were coming through the courts, yet naming the men who did it was treated as the greater offence. The same refusal continues. Inquiries are narrowed or delayed. Police and councils still treat the ethnic pattern as a problem of messaging rather than a problem of crime. The result is plain: networks that rape, traffic and torture girls on an industrial scale have operated with relative impunity, while those who document the pattern face the greater official hostility.
That is the cost of the word. A twenty-minute film was commissioned by a government agency, trialled in Sheffield schools and then left unused because the perpetrator was Asian. The girls it was meant to warn never saw it. The pattern it illustrated has not stopped.
November is Islamophobia Awareness Month. Be aware.
