Nurses like Sandie should be allowed to do their job caring for patients, not subjected to witch hunts for defending their basic rights to privacy and dignity.
This ruling on her union’s failures to support her (not about single-sex spaces where she has already won) is disapppointing but takes nothing away from Sandie’s courage in standing up not just for herself but for women’s rights.
The usual suspects will twist the outcome to attack her after what she’s been through but she is braver and better than them.
Either way, the next Conservative government will put a stop to this nonsense. The NHS should support its nurses, and regulators should focus on what actually matters: professional standards and patient safety not silly fads.
The dismissal today of Sandie Peggie’s case against the Royal College of Nursing should concern every healthcare professional who believes in biological reality.
Bethany Hutchison, President of the Darlington Nursing Union, said:
“Sandie’s story shows why healthcare professionals need a union that understands their convictions before a crisis begins.
“The court’s decision does not erase the fears and lawful beliefs of nurses who believe their union may not represent them robustly when disputes involve biological sex and gender identity.
“Sandie’s experience shows how vulnerable a nurse can become when trust in union representation breaks down.
“Gender-critical nurses deserve representation from a union whose starting point is clear: biological sex is real, freedom of belief matters, and lawful single-sex protections must be defended.
“The Darlington Nursing Union exists to provide that representation. We will stand firmly alongside our members, seek early and effective resolutions, and defend them robustly if a dispute escalates.
"Our members should never have to question whether their union shares a commitment to defending their lawful rights."

A recent report has shown that Harrow ranks in the top 15% of areas in England for children’s life chances and opportunities. We are ensuring that the council is doing all that it can to invest in and support our young peoples’ future.

Every time the Monarch goes to a Commonwealth country we get this nonsense from them regarding reparations. Perhaps we should ask ourselves why we don’t set them all ‘free’ I’ve had enough of it. One way traffic which we should stop.

We need to fund defence properly and cut our huge welfare bill NOW - this Labour lot will ruin us all!

This is entirely inappropriate and makes a joke of the civil service.
Yes Labour shouldn’t be asking civil servants to do this. But there’s no doubt the CS would have pushed back against a right of centre government.
It’s no wonder nobody takes government seriously.

This is astounding. The government's own figures show working-age welfare will go up by £60 BILLION by 2030, yet the Treasury has to rush out and correct the Chancellor to say there is no timetable for cutting the benefits bill. Looks like foot in mouth syndrome is spreading.
John Healey couldn't even find £10 billion to get defence spending to 3% of GDP - the thing he quit over.
Don't let anyone tell you this was a 'do no harm budget'. In doing so little, Labour have harmed our economic security and they've harmed our national security.
😁 to open the fantastic Pinner Village Gardens playground as the Portfolio Holder of culture and community and it was an honour to have the Mayor of Harrow Cllr Yogesh Teli by my side as we cut the ribbon together. I was thrilled this year that the park was awarded a green flag.

An extra £100 BILLION on welfare
Inflation almost DOUBLE the target
Well done Labour. Things are going from bad to worse 🔻
🚨 SUMMARY: The OBR forecasts following John Healey's Budget
- Welfare spending will rise to £431.3bn by 2030/31 - an increase of £97.5bn a year in cash terms
- This includes £209.8bn on pensioner benefits, £110.7bn on Universal Credit, £69.6bn on disability benefits, £13.9bn on Child Benefit and £27.2bn on other welfare
- Inflation will peak at 3.75% in early 2027, up from the earlier prediction of 2%
- UK GDP growth will slow from around 1.25% in 2026 to 1% in 2027, before climbing to 1.6% in 2031
- Average UK unemployment will rise to 5.1% across 2026 and 2027
- The Employment Rights Act will "likely" have a negative economic impact because of reduced flexibility and greater uncertainty for businesses
- The landlord tax increases (property income) could contribute to a long-term rise in private rents and discourage landlords from entering the market
- Real household disposable income per person will be around 0.75% lower in 2030-31 than it expected in March 2026
- Higher earnings and frozen tax thresholds will increase income tax and National Insurance receipts by £9bn in 2026-27 and around £8bn on average in subsequent forecast years compared with March
- Net migration is forecast to fall to 120,000 in the year to mid-2026, then gradually rise to 230,000 by the year to mid-2031
- Nominal weekly earnings growth will slow to around 3.5% in 2026, then average roughly 2.25% a year
- Andy Burnham's first-time buyer scheme could raise house prices by increasing demand without enough new homes being built

Baroness Casey recommended that police record the ethnicity of grooming gang offenders. The Government accepted that in June 2025. Sixteen months on it is still not mandatory, and the Bill meant to require it has not been introduced.

Kemi was on fire today! A beige budget. A lot of waffle and word salad. Very little in it and @KemiBadenoch tore Healey and his Labour budget apart 👏👏
I’ve not always been bowled over by the Leader of the Opposition, but @KemiBadenoch’s response to the Budget and her focus on the importance of national security was astonishingly good.
Her best performance by far on the most serious issue, defence of the realm.
