Husband just shared the expected bad news. Our insurance won’t cover it because we don’t have a flood policy. In our zip code, it’s astronomically expensive for regular folks to afford one. We don’t know a single person who can carry one. We hoped this freak storm would be covered by our policies, but no luck. Before you attack me, if I told you how much our current policy costs a year, you’d probably pass out. South Florida has some of the highest premiums for home and car insurance. We’ve been told to contact FEMA. If anyone has experience or info, please let me know. I’ve never had to do such a thing. I have to pull out all the flooring in my master bedroom and replace drywall, flooring, and bedroom furniture in my daughter’s room, plus our generator and any belongings stored in the garage. I was home alone for the worst of the flooding, which came so fast that things became too soaked and heavy for me to lift. By the time my husband got through, everything had been soaking for hours.
