Here’s one of the most fascinating child development videos I’ve ever shared. As your baby learns language, they begin by approximating the examples you set. After a period of early experimentation with sound (including cries, coos and gurgles), infants begin babbling - making speech-like sounds (which often include components of conventional speech) that are - nonetheless - not yet conventionally meaningful. This babbling phase is a precursor to the use of formal words. And it happens in all languages. Including sign language. This video shows an infant (who, by the way, is not hearing impaired) “babbling” to her deaf grandparents. As they sign to her, she responds in kind, using her hands to approximate the signed communication that they are modeling. It’s a whole serve and return conversation, just as if they were conversing verbally. If you’ll watch carefully, you’ll note distinct turn taking. And - interestingly - that with her grandparents she largely avoids vocalizations, in favor of gesture. What a treat to see this rich example of bilingual language development. This fascinating video was shared to TT by mara_mccullough.

Leaving a school is very hard. A Year 1 boy sits next to me as I am having a second. I think of the lives I've touched, the inspiration I hope I've given, the care, the work. He looks at me. What's your name, he says.

We need to regulate before we relate and reason. If we are dysregulated, it becomes contagious. We need to be calm and then model our response. We can use our parasympathetic nervous system to help co- regulate someone else's sympathetic nervous system response. 🧠🌱

Massive appreciation to Katie and other disabled people doing such a great job highlighting how train office closures will impact our community. As ever, it’s disabled voices leading the way on this.
This is how hard it *already is* to get assistance. I tried to get the Overground. I arrived with plenty of time, but the assistance point was seemingly closed, no one visible behind the glass. I can’t reach the window to bang on the glass, so tried shouting “hello?” for ages.

My unsung hero @MrsLauraFoley has, from the day @YsgolBrynDerw17 opened, been at my side, always supportive, believing in our vision and doing the tough jobs that aren't my cup of tea! We're complete opposites but make a great team - her name should on the award too #DreamTeam
Incredibly proud & privileged to work for @Drew74Richard who won Headteacher of the Year at the #SWSchoolsAwards 🌟 Such an inspirational, dedicated leader. We're so lucky to have you steering the @YsgolBrynDerw17 ship. Well deserved 🥳

We need to shift our view from the child and how to make them comply, to the system and whether it is fit for children. Compliance is not always a healthy response. Behaviour is feedback on the system. 13/

All behaviour is a communication of an unmet need. Look at it through a lens of co-regulation. Our most effective approach is to get the heart of their unmet need and see what is happening beneath the surface. Not to try and punish the need out of them. 🧠🌱

It still amazes me that many educators think that a child plans misbehaviour in their cortex, then tells the lower parts of their brain to go in and disrupt class. Most of the time its something that came in from the bottom and shut down the thinking brain. Basic neuroscience.🧠🌱
