Team 8-1 had a great time at GritNWit today! @OMS_NY
I had the pleasure of presenting at the Summer Literacy Institute on the importance of BookLove and school-wide read-alouds. I can’t wait to utilize what I learned in the breakout sessions from such talented educators to facilitate the best learning experience for my students!
Let the book club begin! Here are just a few selections that will provide students with "windows and mirrors" into growing awareness of larger societal pressures. Students will have ownership over their learning and experience how reading transforms how we see others. #ELA
It's safe to say team 7-1 loved reading The Outsiders so much that they dressed up as Greasers and Socs. These young adults learned that people are not all that different from one another, and explored the idea of social issues that existed in the 1960s and current day.#Booklove
Yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting the benefits of an integrated co-teaching model at the ENL Roundtable discussion. It's always inspiring to be in a room full of people who want the same things, which is supporting students' academic growth and watching them succeed #ENL

ENL Round Table ✨The fabulous presenters engaged us in many aspects of the ENL world; whats in a name, supporting SIFE students, co-teaching models, literacy and celebrating bilingualism. @MrsFWasserman @MsMuleELA @OSchoolsPR

Team Spirit is off the chain at @OMS_NY! Here’s a little ‘70s love from Team 7-1. 🤩 The skits, plaques, posters, and scrap books made by all teams are astounding. Great work by all of the students.

Our 7-1 students created their literary works of art to convey key details about characters from the infamous novel "The Outsiders". The gallery walk had students moving as they explored new concepts and analyzed how ideas can be organized and expressed differently. – at Oceanside, NY

Ending 2023 feeling thankful to be a part of the Oceanside community! Participating in the OFT Toy Drive, holiday door decorating with my advisory students, and recognizing my students with the OMS Sailor Award for working toward and achieving their goals. #Oceanside #ToyDrive – at Oceanside, NY
Recently, we wrapped up our historical fiction unit by creating a one-pager on Fever 1793. It’s amazing to see how students interpret and organize their ideas in different ways. @OMS_NY @halseanderson #CriticalThinking #BookLove #WritingCommmunity – at Oceanside, NY
Today we started class with a Socratic seminar and moved on to strengthening our responses in our reader’s notebooks. Students shared their ideas from the interpretive questions with their partners! #ELA #readerscommunity #WritingCommunity #Engaging #OMS – at Oceanside, NY
Today's learning target was to create our own identity map and proceed to make a map for the main character of our novel, Fever 1793. Students were able to analyze Mattie on a deeper level. It's fascinating to see the different approaches to creating their maps. @TCRWP – at Oceanside, NY
