Barbados welcomes the UK Prime Minister’s acknowledgement of the brutality of the transatlantic slave trade, his openness to a formal apology and his offer of structured dialogue.
We will engage in good faith as a member of CARICOM, while speaking plainly and respectfully about our differences on reparations. Those differences should not prevent progress on health, education, tackling poverty and inequality, and fairer debt terms for vulnerable states.
The CARICOM Ten Point Plan remains our guide as we build on common ground and continue the pursuit of reparatory justice. We cannot reach our destination if we do not start the journey.

Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan led a delegation on a tour of the Vertical Agro Avocado Processing Factory in Naivasha, where they witnessed the processing of Kenyan avocados destined for China. Avocado exports to China rose by 63 per cent between May and August 2026, while unroasted green coffee exports grew by 139 per cent.

The 144 pages long judgement nullifying the US$1.9 billion partial divestiture from Safaricom Plc is out!
The 3-judge bench raises 5 issues as the premise for quashing the transaction:
1. The divestiture was made without any reasonable, meaningful, quantitative & qualitative public participation
2. The divestiture was marred with obscurities, misrepresentation & concealment of material information in violation of the Constitution
3. The divestiture violates the Constitutional principles of intergenerational & intragenerational equity
4. The state undertook the divestiture in a camouflaged merger & take over in contravention of the Constitution & Public Finance Management Act
5. KCB Investment Bank was procured in contravention with Article 227 of the Constitution & Public Procurement Act

The government is yet again deferring the promise for PAYE bands review.
National Treasury CS had said that by close of September, he would have tabled a Bill in Parliament to trigger this review (see quoted tweet).
He is now saying that he has to go for the World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings (Oct 12th - 18th) & then come back.
Remember he had indicated that we would have seen this even before Finance Bill 2026.
If it's an Oct/Nov affair, remember Finance Bill '27 comes a lot earlier than usual, due in Jan '27
