The @KenyaInsights reports a $550M (Sh71.5B) deal for Kenya's geothermal steam, and nobody else was allowed to bid.
🔴 In Feb 2025, @KeTreasury approved Chinese firm Kaishan's Olkaria green fertilizer complex through "specially permitted procurement," a legal exception meant for cases where open competition is allegedly impossible or impractical.
🔴 What Kaishan gets:
✅Steam from KenGen's existing, publicly drilled wells
✅A 30-year operating window
✅Expected Ministry of Agriculture offtake, backed by Treasury payment support
🔴 What @KenGenKenya gets: about $13M (Sh1.69B) a year.
🔴 How Kaishan got here: first as EPC contractor on the Moi-linked Sosian plant at Menengai, then buying a stalled Menengai licence for roughly $3.3M (Sh429M), now preferred partner on a flagship state project. No tender at any stage of the Olkaria deal.
🔴 The Supreme Court ruled in 2025 that this route can't be a shortcut around competition. Yet no public justification has been released.
🔴 Nobody has proven corruption. But if the case was truly exceptional, publish the justification, the steam pricing and the offtake terms. If the public is carrying the risk for 30 years, it should get to see the contract.
🔴 On public radar: CS @OpiyoWandayi & PS Alex Wachira @KenGenKenya @TreasuryKE @OAG_Kenya @EnergyMinK @PPRAKenya
Kibabii University wants to give Bungoma's sitting Governor, Ken Lusaka, an undeserving honorary doctorate on 20 Nov.
This is how Western Kenya's political class now collects "Dr" titles:
🔹 Dec 2022: Mudavadi, weeks into his job as Prime CS, honoured by @MMUST_Kenya
🔹 Mar 2023: Wetang'ula, six months after becoming Speaker, honoured by Kibabii
🔹 Nov 2026: Lusaka, Bungoma's own governor and a powerful voice over the county Kibabii sits in, honoured by Kibabii
When a university keeps honouring the very politicians who hold power over it, Kenyans are entitled to ask: is it merit, money, or pressure?
Honoris Causa should honour scholars, innovators and quiet heroes, not incumbents in office.
This cheapens Kibabii's degrees and every graduate who earned theirs the hard way.
@KibabiiUni must withdraw this nomination and review how these awards are made @EduMinKenya @CUE_Kenya @Bettymuganda17 @HonJuliusMigos @ElimuYetuC #HonorisCausa #Kibabii #Bungoma
The @IEBCKenya has shortlisted 9 people for CEO, the officer who will run the 2027 election machinery. Interviews are 12–13 Nov.
On the list: a former @EACCKenya boss Halakhe Waqo, a @NACADAKenya CEO Anthony Omerikwa, an IEBC returning officer, a 2025 IEBC chair hopeful, and five others Kenyans know almost nothing about.
In 2025, the IEBC selection panel invited public memoranda on candidates. Why not now?
@IEBCKenya, open a window for public submissions on the suitability of each candidate before 12 Nov. Publish their CVs. Let the public speak.
The person who runs our election must be vetted by the people whose votes they'll count.

Who really profits from M23 in Eastern Congo?
Follow the money.
♦️ Rubaya supplies about 15% of the world's coltan, the ore in your phone and laptop. M23 has held it since 2024 and, by UN estimates, earns at least $800,000 a month taxing miners and traders.
♦️ But it doesn't stop at coltan. Gold, coffee, cocoa: per a new GI-TOC report, every sector in M23 territory is taxed. The group runs a parallel state with its own governors, courts, intelligence, even its own security company.
♦️ And M23 isn't the only one cashing in:
🔹 Rwanda backs M23
🔹 Ugandan officers are tied to timber and gold, even as their army fights alongside Kinshasa
🔹 Wazalendo militias hold mines on the government's behalf
🔹 Mercenaries were hired through murky, poorly vetted deals
♦️ Meanwhile, hundreds have died in mine collapses this year, and the UN projects 9 million displaced by year's end.
Peace talks focus on guns. They ignore the profits. Until that changes, the war pays too well to end #DRC #M23 #Congo
Science taught her precision. Media taught her influence. Shuga just got both. Congratulations on your new role, Yvonne Okwara. Proud of you! 🙌🏾
Treasury PS @DrChrisKiptoo’s contradictions as @KeTreasury finally wants the keys to e-Citizen. The real question is why it took this long.
🔹 PS Dr Chris Kiptoo told the @NAssemblyKE Finance Committee that new regulations giving Treasury legal control of the platform are already before Parliament. The Delegated Legislation Committee has approved them.
🔴 What the rules do:
🔹 Make e-Citizen government-owned, hosted and administered
🔹 Create Steering and Technical Committees to run it
🔹 Turn "convenience fees" into formal "access fees"
🔹 Give national agencies 12 months to onboard; counties can join voluntarily
🔴 Why it matters: the @OAG_Kenya flagged Sh9.4B irregularly channelled from the platform, with funds paid out to private entities via @KeEquityBank. The audit warned that a vendor controlling the system behind most government services is a single point of failure.
🔴 Three things to watch:
1️⃣ Dr Kiptoo says Treasury will "split the functions" with the vendor through contract talks. A split is not full control. Who keeps the code, the data and the payment rails?
2️⃣ "Access fees" now have legal backing. Kenyans pay for services, then pay again to reach them. Who sets those fees, and who audits them? Double taxation!
3️⃣ A new revenue assurance system means little until Parliament sees an independent, published reconciliation.
Regulations are a start. Kenyans still need to see the money trail @eCitizenKenya @CoB_Kenya #eCitizen #Accountability
Felix Koskei's challenge to Kenyan professionals: stop defining yourselves by your office. Take your knowledge to the grassroots, translate policy into plain language, and become the change your community needs. 💡 #MauForest
End of an era. 🎙️ Yvonne Okwara signs off from Royal Media Services with an emotional farewell, thanking the people who shaped her: Jimi Gathu, Joe Ageyo, Sam Shollei, Munira, Talaam, #NewsGang team and more. A beautiful and fearless voice leaves the newsroom, but the standard she set stays 👏🏾 #YvonneOkwara
Another day, another complaint against the FKF President Hussein Mohammed
General Assembly representatives have served Hussein Mohammed with a show-cause summons, giving him 7 days to explain why he shouldn't be removed from office.
The six charges, all still allegations:
1️⃣ Failing to implement NEC resolutions, including the Transitional Ad Hoc Committee reforms adopted in April 2025, and no AGM since May 2025
2️⃣ Running FKF with no approved 2026 budget, sidelining the Finance Committee, and an estimated KSh 30M in Ministry/CHAN funds allegedly spent outside the approved framework
3️⃣ Pushing league structures and competition rules on clubs without NEC approval or General Assembly ratification, with disputes now at the Sports Disputes Tribunal
4️⃣ No lawful plan for the vacant General Secretary post, and a Harambee Stars coach appointment questioned over work permits
5️⃣ Handpicking people for CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 committees without NEC approval
6️⃣ Altered, unconfirmed NEC minutes allegedly signed as "confirmed" and presented in court
He's expected to face the Special General Meeting in Meru on 7 November.
The summons itself says none of this is a finding of guilt. But a federation that can't hold an AGM, pass a budget, or agree on its own minutes has a governance problem, whoever is to blame.
Kenyan football deserves answers, not another standoff @husseinmoha @FIFAcom @fifacom_ar @caf_online_AR

It's done. Harry Kane wins the 70th Ballon d'Or. 🏆🏴
73 goals. 65 games. Zero debate.
The first Englishman to lift it since Michael Owen in 2001.
Mbappé misses out. Again.
The trophy came home. To London. 👑

All roads lead to Wamunyoro village in Nyeri …
🔴 Kalonzo yesterday. Wamalwa the same day. Sifuna before them. 287 days to the ballot, and the Opposition's most important address isn't a party HQ. It's Rigathi Gachagua's living room.
🔴 Why? Arithmetic.
✅In 2022, Mt Kenya handed Ruto 87% of its vote and the presidency with it. The man who helped deliver that bloc is now pointing it the other way.
✅Ol Kalou proved it isn't just talk: DCP swept 85% of the vote.
🔴 And here's the masterstroke: he isn't demanding the ticket. He's offering to be the "unifying factor" who helps pick the flagbearer, consolidating regions first and settling on a name later.
🔴 No opposition candidate gets to 50%+1 without the Mountain. And right now, the Mountain's door has one key.
Kingmaker isn't a consolation prize. In 2027, it may be the most powerful seat at the table
… But with or without full opposition coalition, Edwin Sifuna remains the automatic choice to be the flag bearer
🛣️ Kenya could owe up to Sh180bn if it cancels the Rironi–Mau Summit highway deal.
🔹 Treasury's latest public-private partnership (PPP) risk report shows the maximum payout if the 30-year contracts are terminated early next financial year:
🔹 Rironi–Naivasha–Gilgil and Rironi–Mai Mahiu–Naivasha (CRBC with NSSF): Sh93.38bn
🔹 Gilgil–Nakuru–Mau Summit (Shandong Road and Bridge): Sh87.35bn. Financial close is still pending.
Treasury's caveat: this is a worst-case figure, not an expected bill. It says not every project is likely to be terminated at once.
🔹 But there's precedent 👀 In 2025 the government cancelled the Vinci-led French deal for the same highway, signed in 2020 under Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenya paid Sh7.3bn to settle and avoid a court fight in London, and the project then went to Chinese contractors after President Ruto's Beijing visit.
The bigger picture:
📊 Total PPP exposure for FY2027/28 is about Sh413.8bn, and this highway alone is about 44% of it
🔹 Nairobi Expressway: Sh72bn, down from Sh103.8bn in 2025
🔹 Smart driving licences: Sh50.2bn exposure, more than the Sh45bn project value
🔹 Africa50 power lines: Sh41bn
PPPs keep debt off the books today, but the risk stays with taxpayers.

📺 MultiChoice is slashing DStv prices to try to win back Kenyan viewers.
🔹 From Nov 5, its six product lines become four, all cheaper:
🔹 DStv Starter, Sh750: 116 channels plus one big-league match a week, including the EPL
🔹 DStv Sports, Sh3,000: replaces Compact and Compact Plus, with 159 channels, every EPL match, the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, WWE and UFC
🔹 DStv Ultimate, Sh7,300: the new top tier, 37.6% cheaper than today's Sh11,700 Premium, with up to 180 channels, F1, MotoGP, cricket, rugby, ATP tennis and golf majors
🔹 Why now? The numbers are brutal 👇
📉 Market share fell from 60.2% (Sept 2022) to 41.3% (June 2026)
📉 Subscribers on DStv and GOtv fell 82.5%, from 3.66M to about 640K
📉 Group revenue dropped from roughly Sh462bn (2023) to Sh397bn (2025), and trading profit from about Sh78bn to Sh31bn
🔹 The pressure comes from Netflix, YouTube, smart TVs with built-in streaming apps, StarTimes, Zuku and Azam, plus piracy sites streaming EPL games for the price of internet data.
🔹 The big question is whether cheaper football is enough to bring cord-cutters back. ⚽

Dear @CarrefourKe:

Prof Makau Mutua is totally shameless. He is truly unworthy of attention.
He campaigned for Raila Odinga, wrote that he would never work for William Ruto, then took a job as Ruto's advisor. Call it what you like. He backstabbed and betrayed Raila Odinga in life and in his death.
He chairs a panel for victims of police brutality, housed in the very Office of the President that rights groups say should not oversee it. The panel has been tied up in court, and families are still waiting for hearings and compensation. Money is lost.
A man who built his name on human rights now lends his name to a process victims don't trust.
So when he picks a fight with Edwin Sifuna, he is making a mistake he will regret. Sifuna is God’s and the people's choice. He doesn't compete with anyone on experience in flip-flopping, switching sides and selling out.
Lecture someone else, @makaumutua. H.E @edwinsifuna will not respond to you. He plays in a totally different political league.
