I see the windows, mirrors and sliding glass doors metaphor used all the time without citation. So thankful to @k_shelton for citing Dr. Sims-Bishop! Citing all scholars, but BIPOC scholars in particular, is so important! #NCCE22 Did you know other scholars have added to this...

This is my "why". I've been motivated by this thought since I started teaching. If we find a way to bridge the gap between what students do at home and what they do at school we will have driven, passionate, engaged students who will do anything to succeed.

As we've said before: we teach young people, NOT books. If you're more concerned about the books you teach and not meeting the needs of the young people before you, you're off. The books are tools. Ask: what is the best tool I can use to meet the need they have? #DisrupTexts

Today, I met a 7-year-old Black girl who was amazed to know that I'm an author. I showed her my friends, other Black women authors, and her jaw dropped. We look like her, and we're doing what she wants to do. Suddenly, her dreams seemed more possible. Representation matters.

Even before there was a Minnesota, there was the Dakota phrase Mni Sota Makoce. It’s simple: our school children should be aware that they speak the language of Native people every time they name their home state. Supporting Indigenous education will benefit all students.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan is the driving force behind a push to improve how Minnesota schools teach Indigenous history and to improve the school experience for students from tribal backgrounds. strib.mn/3cKhCgp

Here’s my advice as a tech coach: Stop. Trying. All. The. Things. And if anyone makes you feel otherwise, stop taking advice from them. Focus on pedagogy and the student experience. The tools are going to change tomorrow. Good pedagogy won’t.
