MV Grande Egitto, a newly built, environmentally friendly RORO vessel, on Thursday delivered 1,297 motor vehicle units at the Port of Mombasa. The month-old car carrier, operated by the Grimaldi Group, is the newest addition to the company’s modern vehicle-carrier fleet. She delivered the consignment on her maiden voyage to Mombasa. The arrival and discharge of the units destined for the local and regional market marks yet another milestone in the port’s growing role as a regional automotive logistics hub. With a length overall of 220 metres,MV Grande Egitto incorporates advanced environmental technologies designed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 50 per cent compared with previous-generation car carriers, while enabling zero emissions during berthing. Its energy efficiency features include approximately 2,500 square metres of solar panels, intelligent energy-management systems, silicone-based hull coatings to reduce drag, an air-lubrication system, an optimised hull design and an innovative gate rudder that improve propulsion efficiency. KPA –PLC Chief Executive Officer Captain William Ruto welcomed the vessel expressing appreciation to the Grimaldi Group for choosing Mombasa as one of the first ports of call on its regional service. Captain Ruto said the vessel’s arrival reflected the port’s growing capacity to accommodate modern, environmentally efficient ships noting that its deployment also demonstrated Mombasa’s importance in facilitating trade between Asia and East Africa. Captain Mazzitelli, appreciated KPA staff for operational efficiency saying that he expected the discharge operation to be completed in record time as scheduled. MV Grande Egitto’s arrival follows the port’s reception of her sister vessel Grande Shanghai approximately two months ago which was also built with advanced environmentally friendly technologies. The vessel’s local agent, Nisomar Group, led by Team Leader David Mackay, noted that the group is proud of receiving and handling the sister vessels which are “now the largest and most modern fuel efficient and carbon neutral PCC vessels in the world” . Captain Ruto presented a maiden-call certificate and commemorative plaque to the vessel’s master, Captain Luigi Mazzitelli.

The kind of karma that governs Uganda is something to be feared. Retired Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, now pursued by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba over allegations of rebel activity – charges he denies - has gone into hiding, "fearing for his life". In November 2016, Elwelu, then a brigadier, commanded the military assault on the Rwenzururu Kingdom palace in Kasese, allegedly for its support of eastern DR Congo-based Ugandan rebels. The operation left over 150 people dead, with estimates placing the toll around 153, including royal guards, civilians, women, and children. On May 19, 2021, Elwelu provoked widespread outrage during a press conference by declaring that the Kasese victims "deserved death." Defending the brutality of the raid, he insisted, "Uganda is peaceful because of my actions in Kasese." When challenged on local backlash and the US visa sanctions slapped on Ugandan officials over human rights abuses, he brushed off international concern: "To hell with them." He had previously branded the Kasese victims "witches" shortly after the 2016 massacre. If Elwelu is cowering in fear today, he might pause to reflect on the sheer terror felt by those defenceless women and children in Kasese. Perhaps he now wishes he possessed the powers of a Harry Potter wizard to vanish into thin air before Muhoozi tracks him down. We must still wish Elwelu fair treatment and due process under the law. Yet there is no escaping the poetic justice of a man who once handed down merciless destruction now finding himself hunted, learning the hard way that the wheel of retribution too often turns full circle. monitor.co.ug/uganda/news/na…

🚨 BREAKING: The Trump DOJ uncovered a MULTIMILLION dollar student loan fraud scheme perpetrated in part by KENYANS in America These Kenyans were STEALING American identities, applying for student loans, then sending that money back to KENYA SEND THEM ALL BACK. We DO NOT need these people here. Multiple Kenyans have now been indicted by federal grand juries on SEVERAL federal charges, including theft of government money and aggravated identity theft. American victims — some of which never went to college — were victims of this scheme, had their identities stolen, and their credit absolutely WRECKED. These third worlders are absolute scumbags.

Obama tonight on his Cheesecake Factory line: "They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke. The White House even called the Secretary of the Treasury. This is the man who is in charge of the economy. The person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable. The guy who's supposed to be figuring out how to lower inflation. And reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory."

Great question, Counsel. We are yet to see the full judgment, but based on the ruling for case to aswer the appeal bites hardest for the driver. The conductor pushed the deceased out of a moving matatu. The rear wheels crushed him. That part is straightforward. But what did the driver do? He failed to stop. The critical question is whether failure to stop, standing alone, establishes the ingredients of murder under section 203 of the Penal Code against the driver independently of the conductor’s actions. PW2’s own testimony works against the prosecution here. He told the court the driver was slowing down and speeding up like he was unsure of what to do. That is confusion, not malice aforethought under section 206. PC on common intention cannot substitute for proof of individual culpability. There must be evidence of a shared unlawful purpose. Collecting fare is not a common purpose to kill. The conductor escalated unilaterally. The driver made a bad call under pressure. Tubere v Republic [1945] 12 EACA 63 requires that an omission grounding murder must be deliberate and with full knowledge of probable consequences. A driver freezing on Thika Superhighway during a sudden altercation does not meet that threshold. That sounds like manslaughter under section 202, not murder. The Court of Appeal in Gabriel & 2 others v Republic [2026] KECA 2222 (Nyeri, 16 October 2026) dealt with individual culpability in consolidated murder appeals barely twelve days before this conviction. That judgment will be central on appeal IN Nyeri. The appeal machinery is already turning. The conductor may have a hard time. But the driver’s conviction is vulnerable. And with a mandatory death sentence hanging on the distinction between murder and manslaughter, this appeal writes itself. Ama?

How were the ingredients of murder proven against the driver, can you share a full copy of this judgment?
The Court has today convicted a driver and his tout for the murder of a passenger. The deceased was thrown out of the moving matatu by the tout after a fare dispute. This should serve a lesson to rogue matatu crew.

Yesterday, Honourable Bernard Obae Omwansa (SPM) adjourned all 73 matters before him to attend and speak in a webinar on Alternative Justice System. The open Court was full with old men and women with pending succession causes the conclusion of which is necessary to enable the distribution of estates (land). The Court did not enable online login despite the link having been posted on the cause list. Some of the cases were given dates in March, 2027 when some of the litigants would have died waiting for justice. Now, explain to me in a manner that that “beautiful” wind head of an MCA asking about Chief Officer and born in 2095 can understand, why a Magistrate would do such a thing? You have cases to decide yet you abandon Court and prefer to spend our time on how the cases should not be decided.

I recently visited a house in Miami owned by a Heat player. (My client was the prospective buyer). The house was the scene of a bankruptcy in action. The player was at the end of his career. Selling the house at a significant loss after just a few years of owning it. Important to note: Miami single family over $5M is one of the best performing segments of the real estate market here. He managed to lose money on a house in a market that shot up. Amazing. Easily over $5M of cars in the driveway (I am not exaggerating). And three rooms full of mostly sneakers. Thousands of pairs. It was mind boggling. The listing agent started to extoll the virtues of the driveway, saying how nicely cars fit. My buyer, who can buy the whole thing in cash, deadpans that he does not have a car. The contrast was rather poetic, in a tragic sort of way. – at Fisher Island, FL
