The Pakistan–Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), led by its Convener, Honourable Deputy Speaker NA Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, held a meeting with the German Ambassador, H.E. Ina Lepel at Parliament House, Islamabad, to discuss enhanced parliamentary engagement and bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Mohammad Ilyas Choudhary, Mohammad Riaz Fatyana, Dr. Shahida Rehmani and Ms. Natasha Daultana.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah reaffirmed the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Germany, highlighting the significance of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026. He emphasised strengthening parliamentary exchanges and expressed hope for the establishment of a counterpart Friendship Group in the German Bundestag.
The Ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and reaffirmed Germany’s cooperation in development, climate change, renewable energy, vocational training and skills development.
Both sides discussed expanding trade and investment, addressing export-related challenges and the importance of GSP+ in facilitating Pakistan’s access to European markets. They also explored opportunities for academic collaboration, scholarships, people-to-people exchanges, women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening parliamentary linkages and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation across key sectors.

Welcoming H.E. Ambassador Movlamov, the Hon. Convener highlighted the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, founded on mutual respect and friendship. He recalled Pakistan’s early recognition of Turkmenistan’s independence and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for its policy of permanent neutrality. He emphasised the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary engagement and proposed the establishment of a counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Parliament of Turkmenistan to facilitate regular dialogue and exchanges between the two legislatures.
Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral trade, regional connectivity and economic cooperation. The importance of finalising and operationalising the Pakistan–Turkmenistan Transit Trade Agreement was underscored, particularly in view of Turkmenistan’s landlocked status and the need for reliable transit routes.
The Hon. Ambassador highlighted opportunities for greater cooperation in trade, transport, energy and infrastructure, emphasising the importance of regional connectivity and the development of transport corridors.
Both sides recognised the importance of strengthening business-to-business contacts, facilitating trade delegations and exploring opportunities for mutually beneficial economic partnerships.
The meeting also emphasised the value of continued high-level engagement, parliamentary exchanges and cooperation on regional and international matters.
The Convener reiterated the importance of sustained engagement between the two Parliamentary Friendship Groups and expressed hope that the proposed counterpart group would provide a foundation for regular interaction and practical cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Turkmenistan relations through parliamentary diplomacy, enhanced trade and economic cooperation, and closer people-to-people ties.

The Convener Pak-Switzerland extended a warm welcome to the Swiss Ambassador, Mr. Stephane Rey. The Convenor underscored the importance of strengthening the Parliamentary Friendship Group as an effective, outcome-oriented platform for engagement. She further highlighted the value of sustained contact between parliamentarians, people-to-people exchanges and cooperation on shared challenges.
Convenor Pak-Switzerland PFG, Ms. Farah Naz Akbar also proposed the formation of the counterpart Friendship Group in the Swiss Parliament, followed by virtual meetings, reciprocal visits and thematic discussions, with opportunities for members to exchange experiences and learn from each other’s legislative and oversight roles.
Swiss Ambassador, Mr. Stéphane Rey appreciated Pakistan’s hospitality and underscored the potential to deepen bilateral engagement. He highlighted opportunities for cooperation in climate change, tourism, science, cultural heritage and vocational training. Referring to the challenges facing mountain communities, he discussed the effects of climate change on villages and tourism and emphasised the value of sharing knowledge, research and best practices. He also noted the importance of strengthening Pakistan’s visibility in Switzerland and building a better understanding between the two countries.
The Members of the Pak-Switzerland PFG, discussed vocational education and skills development as areas for practical collaboration, including exchanges between training institutions and learning from Switzerland’s vocational training system. Members further discussed economic cooperation, the role of Swiss companies operating in Pakistan, agricultural livelihoods, climate resilience, infrastructure and disaster risk reduction.
The potential for stronger cooperation between relevant institutions, including in the context of disaster preparedness, was also raised.
The members of Pak-Switzerland PFG explored opportunities to promote Pakistan’s cultural heritage in Switzerland, including the possibility of a Gandhara-focused exhibition, while recognising the logistical requirements involved in organising such initiatives. The discussion also covered scholarships, student exchanges and opportunities to improve access to educational and professional exchanges. Members highlighted the importance of strengthening people-to-people contact, expanding trade and investment links, and creating further opportunities for Pakistani students, professionals and women to develop their skills and participate in economic activity.
The meeting concluded with a shared emphasis on maintaining regular engagements and identifying specific themes for future interactions. Both sides recognised the importance of translating parliamentary dialogue into practical initiatives in trade, education, vocational training, cultural exchange, climate resilience and disaster risk reduction, thereby strengthening the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Switzerland.

Welcoming Maldivian delegation, the Convener said that Pakistan & Maldives enjoy longstanding & cordial relations based on mutual respect, shared values and close people-to-people ties. She emphasized the importance of sustained parliamentary interaction in further consolidating bilateral relations & providing opportunities for both sides to learn from each other’s legislative & parliamentary experiences.
Hon. Convener highlighted the Parliamentary Friendship Group mechanism as an important platform for maintaining regular institutional engagement, & expressed the desire for more frequent interaction between parliamentarians of the two countries, including reciprocal visits & virtual engagements. She also underscored importance of strengthening broader people-to-people contacts and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The Maldivian side expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality extended by the National Assembly of Pakistan and reaffirmed importance attached to the longstanding friendly relations b/w Pakistan & Maldives.
The delegation noted the need to further reconnect the two peoples through increased parliamentary, institutional & people-to-people interaction. The Maldivian side also highlighted the potential for greater cooperation in medical services, food, construction, tourism, fishing and other areas, noting the practical opportunities arising from Pakistan’s proximity & expertise.
The delegation also emphasized the importance of direct air connectivity between Pakistan & Maldives, particularly for facilitating tourism, business, medical travel and people-to-people contacts. Improved connectivity, it was observed, could provide greater opportunities for businesses & citizens of both countries to interact and strengthen mutually beneficial links. The Maldivian side also referred to the forthcoming visit of the President of Maldives to Pakistan as an important opportunity for further strengthening bilateral relations.
Members of the Pakistan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group also shared their views on avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation, highlighting trade and investment, healthcare, education, information technology, skills development, agriculture, tourism and business-to-business linkages.
Members emphasized the potential for Pakistan’s expertise and human resource capabilities to contribute to areas of priority for Maldives, including healthcare and skills development, while also underscoring opportunities for enhanced agricultural, commercial and technological cooperation. The importance of direct air connectivity was reiterated by the Pakistani side as a key enabler of tourism, trade, medical travel and broader people-to-people interaction. Members also emphasized the value of connecting businesses and institutions from both countries to translate existing goodwill into practical cooperation.
The participants underscored importance of parliamentary diplomacy, high-level exchanges, connectivity and people-to-people contacts in further consolidating Pakistan-Maldives relations.
Both sides expressed their resolve to maintain regular engagement through the Parliamentary Friendship Groups and other appropriate channels and to explore new avenues of cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives, Mr. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, during his visit to Parliament House today, inscribed his remarks in the Guest Book placed in the National Assembly.

A Parliamentary delegation of the Maldives, led by Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives Mr. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, called on Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at Parliament House. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq warmly received the Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives upon his arrival at Parliament House.
The meeting discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Maldives, with particular focus on further strengthening parliamentary exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing parliamentary contacts and institutional cooperation.
The Maldivian parliamentary delegation is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that the visit of the Maldivian parliamentary delegation would serve as an important step towards strengthening interaction and cooperation between the legislatures of the two countries. He said Pakistan attaches great importance to its longstanding and friendly relations with the Maldives.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the Pakistan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group is playing an important role in promoting parliamentary exchanges and strengthening relations between the two Parliaments. He added that the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), SDGs Secretariat, Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) and Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR) are also playing an active role in the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Maldives Mr. Abdul Raheem Abdulla appreciated Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s efforts to further strengthen relations between the legislatures of Pakistan and the Maldives and acknowledged his support during the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town.

🇵🇰🤝🇲🇻 Maldives Parliamentary Delegation Arrives in Islamabad.
Speaker of the People’s Majlis of the Republic of Maldives, Hon. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, arrived in Islamabad today, leading a Parliamentary Delegation on an official visit to Pakistan.
MNA and Convener of the Pak-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), Ms. Shaista Khan, along with senior officers of the National Assembly Secretariat, received the Speaker and members of the Parliamentary Delegation of Maldives upon their arrival at Islamabad International Airport.
During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with the Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Members of the Pak-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), and Members of the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC). The programme will also include a visit and briefing at the SDGs Secretariat, interactions with Members of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights and Members of the Young Parliamentary Forum (YPF).
The visit reflects the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening relations between legislatures and fostering constructive dialogue and cooperation. It also provides an opportunity to further deepen parliamentary ties between Pakistan and the Maldives, based on mutual respect, shared values, cultural harmony and a common commitment to strengthening cooperation.

A 130-member delegation of the National Security and War Course of the National Defence University (NDU), comprising senior civil and military officers from Pakistan and friendly countries and headed by General Muhammad Naeem Akhtar, called on the Honourable Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at Parliament House today.
During the interaction, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted a range of important initiatives undertaken by the Parliament to modernise parliamentary operations, enhance efficiency and promote environmental sustainability.
NA Speaker said that the National Assembly has introduced a paperless parliamentary system, under which Members have been provided digital tablets to facilitate access to parliamentary documents and proceedings. He also highlighted the digitisation of the Speaker’s Office as an important step towards modernising parliamentary working and improving the efficient use of resources.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that these digital initiatives have reduced reliance on paper and stationery, thereby contributing to savings in expenditure while making parliamentary processes more efficient and environmentally sustainable.
NA Speaker further highlighted the Parliament’s measures for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, including the energy-efficiency audit conducted in 2013 and Pakistan Parliament’s transition to solar energy in 2015. He also apprised the delegation of the Parliament’s recent recognition with the first-ever Green Mace Award at the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq further said that the Parliament of Pakistan is committed to promoting environment-friendly initiatives, including legislation for the installation of rainwater harvesting facilities across Pakistan to help replenish groundwater and maintain the water table.
The delegation appreciated the Speaker’s briefing and the Parliament’s initiatives aimed at digital transformation, resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.

اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سردار ایاز صادق نے پاکستان کی پارلیمان کی جانب سے دولت مشترکہ پارلیمانی ایسوسی ایشن کا گرین میس ایوارڈ وصول کیا۔ یہ ایوارڈ قومی اسمبلی کے گرین پارلیمنٹ اقدام، دنیا کی پہلی سو فیصد سولر توانائی سے چلنے والی پارلیمان ہونے، پیپر لیس پارلیمانی نظام کی جانب پیش رفت اور دیگر ماحول دوست اقدامات کے اعتراف میں دیا گیا۔
اس موقع پر اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سردار ایاز صادق نے گرین میس ایوارڈ ملنے پر اظہار تشکر کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ بطور اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی یہ ایوارڈ وصول کرنا میرے لیے باعثِ اعزاز ہے۔
اسپیکر قومی اسمبلی سردار ایاز صادق نے کہا کہ یہ اعزاز محض ایک ایوارڈ نہیں بلکہ آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے صاف اور بہتر ماحول کو یقینی بنانے کے پارلیمانی عزم کا اعتراف ہے۔ گرین میس ایوارڈ منزل نہیں بلکہ اس بات کا اعادہ ہے کہ پائیدار ماحول کے لیے مزید اقدامات جاری رکھنا ہوں گے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ گرین پارلیمنٹ کا سفر اعزاز کے حصول کے لیے نہیں تھا بلکہ یہ سفر آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے صاف ستھرے ماحول کی فراہمی کے احساس ذمہ داری کے تحت شروع کیا۔
پاکستان کی قومی اسمبلی نے اپنی توانائی کی ضروریات کے لیےسو فیصد شمسی توانائی اختیار کر رکھی ہے، جس کے باعث اسے دنیا کی پہلی سو فیصد سولر توانائی سے چلنے والی پارلیمان کا اعزاز حاصل ہے۔ قومی اسمبلی نے پارلیمانی کارروائی کو ڈیجیٹل بنانے اور کاغذ کے استعمال میں کمی کے لیے الیکٹرانک ٹیبلٹس کے استعمال کے ذریعے پیپر لیس پارلیمانی نظام کی جانب بھی اہم پیش رفت کی ہے۔
پارلیمنٹ ہاؤس میں بارش کے پانی کو محفوظ بنانے کے منصوبے کا اجراء بھی قومی اسمبلی کے ماحول دوست اقدامات کا اہم حصہ ہے، جس کا مقصد پانی کے وسائل کا تحفظ اور مؤثر استعمال ہے۔
دولت مشترکہ پارلیمانی کانفرنس کے شرکاء نے پاکستان کے گرین پارلیمنٹ اقدام اور ماحول دوست اقدامات کو سراہتے ہوئے قومی اسمبلی کے تجربے کو دولت مشترکہ کی دیگر پارلیمانوں کے لیے قابلِ تقلید ماڈل قرار دیا۔
گرین میس ایوارڈ پاکستان کی پارلیمان کی جانب سے ماحولیاتی تحفظ، پائیدار ترقی، ڈیجیٹل پارلیمانی نظام اور وسائل کے ذمہ دارانہ استعمال کے لیے جاری کوششوں کا اہم بین الاقوامی اعتراف ہے۔

In a historic recognition for Pakistan’s Parliament, the National Assembly of Pakistan 🇵🇰 has been conferred the inaugural GREEN MACE AWARD during the main programme of the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference #CPC being held in Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦.
Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, received the prestigious award on behalf of the Parliament of Pakistan in recognition of the National Assembly’s pioneering environmental initiatives, including its status as the world’s first 100% #Solar_Powered Parliament, transition towards a #Paperless_Parliamentary_System and the under-development water harvesting project at the Parliament House.
NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed his gratitude for the recognition and said that receiving the Inaugural GREEN MACE AWARD as Speaker of the National Assembly was a matter of great honour.
NA Speaker said the award was not merely an accolade but a recognition of the Parliament’ commitment to ensuring a cleaner and better environment for future generations. He emphasized that the journey towards becoming a #Green_Parliament was undertaken not for recognition but out of a sense of responsibility towards the people, children and generations who would inherit the Parliament in the future.
The National Assembly of Pakistan has transitioned to 100% solar energy, making it the world’s first Parliament to operate entirely on solar power. The National Assembly has also advanced towards a paperless working environment through the use of electronic tablets for parliamentary proceedings, reducing reliance on printed documents and promoting digital parliamentary practices.
The ongoing rainwater harvesting project at Parliament House is another important component of the National Assembly’s environment-friendly initiatives aimed at conserving and efficiently utilising water resources.
Participants of the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference appreciated Pakistan’s Green Parliament initiative and its environmentally responsible measures, describing the National Assembly’s experience as a model for Commonwealth Parliaments seeking to advance sustainable and environment-friendly parliamentary practices.
