Saint Paul, MN – Today, Joel Smith, President and Business Manager of LIUNA Minnesota and North Dakota released the following statement after the assination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark and the shooting of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette.
"Minnesota Laborers are devastated by the assassination of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark and the shooting of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. There is no greater champion for Minnesota’s working people than Melissa Hortman. Beyond her long list of pro-worker legislative accomplishments, she was a wonderful human being who cared about all Minnesotans, a loving wife and mom, and a close friend of LIUNA.
