What does Covid-19 mean for food, farming and nature? disq.us/t/3oa0yc3 Richard is so right, and this is another of the growing, serious and rational interventions exhorting Gov to commit to a green recovery #greennotgrey

Great to see @HMcG_DGNT & @CraigBennett3 on @BBCBreakfast highlighting the struggles the environment sector face in light of covid-19. Vital work to protect nature has been paused & closure of sites has hit finances hard. Read more about this here... wcl.org.uk/huge-nature-cost-…

Good to see our CEO @CraigBennett3 on @BBCBreakfast this morning. The Wildlife Trusts face huge challenges during coronavirus; protecting and restoring nature is more essential than ever.👇 wtru.st/2yYjS1I
We need a renewal based on green growth and delivering nature for people near where they live, not just a high-tariff economic recovery. NHS, National Parks, Planning System: post-War triumphs of vision. Our version needs to be investment that delivers nature for public wellbeing
Important article from @HMcG_DGNT on nature, Coronavirus & what comes next. We can patch up after a crisis and recreate the status quo. Or we can decide to create a legacy for future generations - just as we saw after WW2 with our NHS & National Parks. telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05…

BBC News - Coronavirus: National Trust 'faces £200m losses this year' bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52510154 But main point is the hit on the vital work all conservation charities do. Real risk 25 Yr Plan retreat as 3rd sector delivery slashed. Gov support desperately needed

I should imagine this is prompting some pretty fundamental boardroom discussions about future business models. Maybe time for more than just lip service about becoming energy demand and management companies?

As the Minister who halted #fracking in 2011, think it’s now clear shale gas has little prospect of succeeding in UK. Shale will not have public acceptance or deliver claimed benefits. Time to draw a line and focus on the many better options for future energy needs. @emilygosden
Prof Peter Styles, who has advised the government on fracking, told BBC said the latest quake was caused by the movement of a geological fault. He said: "I think we're going to have to halt fracking, certainly for the time being as we did in 2011. “

Replying to @MarkCocker2
I was not for one moment suggesting that they were equal but are of equal importance. And you are absolutely right nature can do with out us. We have to work with it and not against it. We endlessly impact natures ability to recover and thereby treat it as an equal

Great to be walking the Stonehenge landscape with NT & Natural England colleagues today. Every time I visit I see something new. Fabulous place to explore
Today to Salisbury Plain with colleagues from @nationaltrust & @NaturalEngland to discuss ecological recovery in landscapes with huge historic importance. Many win-wins to be foreseen, through connecting, restoring & creating wildlife-rich ecosystems at scale.
