⛈️⛈️⛈️ Strong thunderstorms could move through the city as a cold front crosses NYC. The forecast shows winds picking up around 3 p.m., with the main storm window from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and possible gusts of 40 to 60 mph that could bring down tree branches. According to the forecast, the highest chance of severe storms is expected in western parts of the city. Before any storm, it’s always a good idea take the following steps: Secure loose items on balconies, rooftops, and patios. Charge your phone and devices. If you hear thunder, go inside and move away from windows. Gusty winds are expected to continue Saturday morning, with gusts of 30 to 35 mph and much cooler temperatures. Get alerts: text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 or visit nyc.gov/notifynyc. Report downed trees to 311, and call 911 if anyone is in danger.

New Yorkers: tomorrow is shaping up to be a rainy Sunday. Here’s the latest on the remnants of Isaias. 🌧️ Isaias is no longer a hurricane. After making landfall near Destin, Florida, Friday night, it weakened to a post-tropical cyclone and has lost its tropical characteristics. It’s still carrying a lot of moisture, though, and according to @NWSNewYorkNY, that moisture is expected to bring a steady, soaking rain to NYC tomorrow. Here’s what the forecast says right now:
☔ Rain is expected to move in after 8 AM Sunday and spread across the city by late morning or early afternoon.
🌧️ The heaviest rain is expected Sunday afternoon and evening, with 1 to 1.25 inches of rain and a rumble of thunder possible. Some areas could see 2 to 3 inches where heavier rain repeats.
💨 Gusts of 30 to 35 mph are expected, with occasional gusts up to 40 mph.
🌤️ Rain is expected to end by Monday morning, with a dry Monday afternoon. At this time, the forecast calls for mainly minor flooding on streets and in low-lying areas. Minor coastal flooding is also possible around high tide Monday morning and again Tuesday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, the City’s Flash Flood Emergency Plan remains active, and crews are clearing catch basins across all five boroughs. Before the rain arrives:
🪴 Secure loose items on balconies and patios.
🔋 Keep your phone charged.
🏠 If you live in a basement, know your exits and be ready to move to a higher floor if heavy rain begins.
🚗 Never drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters. Get free alerts at nyc.gov/notifynyc. 📲
