Black Americans stopped being Africans the moment we were loaded onto those ships.
We became Americans when we were sold into slavery by Africans and forced to build this country with our labor.
We stopped being Africans when Crispus Attucks and thousands of other Black Patriots fought and died for American independence.
We were no longer Africans when Black soldiers fought for the Union, helped defeat the Confederacy, and secured the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.
We were no longer Africans when we served in every American war—World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam—and earned full citizenship through blood.
We were no longer Africans when we fought for and won civil rights inside the American system alongside White allies, not by rejecting America but by demanding it live up to its founding promises.
We are foundational Americans—forged in the flames of this nation’s history and born anew as a new people.

NEW: Florida police release a statement after a family claims that police were called on their 3-year-old son because he was "too good" at soccer.
Video footage shows a 3-year-old soccer prodigy dominating a group of 5-year-olds in Winter Park, Florida.
"They called the police on a three-year-old because he's too good... because he had the ball for too long and nobody else can get the ball so they called the police on him," the family claimed in the video.
The Winter Park Police Department has since released a statement saying they were called about a "disturbance" between league officials and the player's parents.
"The Winter Park Police Department was contacted by a soccer league official who requested response to a disturbance between league officials and the parents of a player," they said.
"The league requested the family leave and offered to refund the league cost to family. Shortly after arrival, the officers were requested by the league official to communicate with the family as he did not want to further a disturbance."
"The family stated the game was over and they were leaving. The family was cooperative with the officers and were provided with an event number for the incident at their request."
