A-level language equivalent is at least B2, if not C1, depending how you operationalise it. Many native speakers won’t pass a C1 level in their own language as those tests do not reflect everyday conversations at work or socially. For example, I likely won’t past C1 in my native Romanian, especially after living in the UK for a long time. Similarly, many of my British friends don’t have A level English. If we want to support integration, what is needed is investment in ESOL locally, especially on vocational ESOL in the workplace. Because there is limited or no use to knowing all types of conditional sentences if you don’t know the vocabulary needed in your trade or job.

Nathan Gill. Nathan Gill. Nathan Gill. Nathan Gill. Nathan Gill. Nathan Gill. A politician of any kind who takes bribes from Russia, but especially a friend and colleague of the man we keep being told will be next PM, should be as well known to this generation as Philby was to mine. Thanks to a media blackout to help Nige Nathan can walk down any street in the land unrecognised and unbothered by journalists. What weird times we live in

This thread is a really good illustration of the need for domain specific knowledge - being handy with data is helpful but insufficient.
NEW: Is the NHS still good value for money? Billions of pounds are being ploughed into Britain’s health service — with little noticeable improvement in health since 2019. Critics say the NHS has become bloated and inefficient. Is it? @thetimes 1/7
