Wild times when running a 3D printer feels easier than dealing with those old 2D ones. 😎

Should a USB-C connector's shell go straight to ground, or through an RC (1 MΩ ‖ 4.7 nF)? Open boards are split. I hit both with a simulated 8 kV zap. Either way, 30 A lands in your ground. The cap is just left holding 249 V. Answer: straight, unless the box is earthed. 🧵

The banana at the Next Gen Roadster reveal wasn't an accident. It was an analog stopwatch.
A laser triggered the drop the instant the tires started to roll. We hung it at exactly the car's 0-60 time at the time of 1 second.
Banana hits the ground. Car hits the laser wall. Same frame.
Here's how we did it 🧵

The new Roadster's rear drive unit is unbelievably small for something producing 1,341 hp. Lars Moravy says its two motors produce more power and torque than all three in a Model S Plaid, in @Hagerty’s video. Each motor has its own inverter and planetary reduction gear, allowing independent control of the rear wheels without a conventional differential.

Should you cut a hole in the ground plane under the pads of a USB-C or HDMI connector? Some engineers swear by it, others say never. I simulated it 327 times to settle it. Answer: yes, when the pad is wider than the trace. And make the hole exactly the size of the pads. 🧵1/12

Turns out you can get laser cut sheet metal ~10x cheaper by pretending it's a solder paste stencil and ordering from @JLCPCB. Suck it, SendCutSend!

Claude Opus 5.5 continues to amaze me. Claude Opus 5.5 created a 3D printable enclosure for an existing PCB. Then it created this promo video for it. The PCB, the printable STLs and this animation are 100% just from prompting in Claude Code.

My first Claude Opus 5.5 designed PCB by Claude Opus 5.5. This has been sent to JLCPCB for fabrication and assembly. Input: prompt >> Output: Assembled working board. Can you guess what it does and what I am using it for?

It’s much more likely that someone will vibe-code it in KiCad.
Xpedition PCB is a good tool, expensive, but has really good interactive routing features. Was hoping to get a personal license someday to share projects of mine being routed like this. Saw some quotes recently, so getting a ballpark of current cost.
