Hello, my new followers. Since that random post went viral (well, viral *for me*), I figured I’d introduce myself and give you a chance to unfollow.
I’m ordained American Baptist.
I’m Wesleyan in most things sans baptism and ecclesiology.
I’m evangelical, egalitarian, and hold to a traditional sexual ethic.
I’m basically a New Testament theologian.
Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox are fellow Christians, and I love talking with serious folks in those sides of the Christian family.
My first two degrees were film degrees, so you may get the occasional movie take.
I’m married to Allison and we’re mom and dad to a five year old and a soon-to-be-born little one.
I pastor in the Greater Los Angeles area.
I homebrew.
My PhD (ABD) is on the New Testament and Universal Salvation (no, not a universalist).
I have too much grey in my beard.
I’m also buds with @thechurchsplit and @DPGBehler and @jdpritchett so you can tell my sense of humor is broken.
Nice to meet y’all.
Looking forward to preaching through psalm 23 this Sunday.
Plenty to reflect upon, difficult and holy.
Two sicks kids + grading + sermon writing + fighting off whatever they got has me just needing a month off
My 1yo threw up all night Monday and Tuesday. Now my 6yo is doing the same right now.
Either I have the immunity of adamantium or I’m due for a really bad Saturday night.
Please pray for them to feel better.
A more interesting Q is the compatibility of Islam and LGBTQ affirmation. An inter-Islam debate on this would be really interesting.
I think the Dodgers need to fill out the infield with mainstays. Kike and Tommy can be our utility pieces.
The sound of one hand clapping yet again
OPINION: "There’s definitely something wicked in our political discourse when many Christians clap for hateful, inaccurate political attacks on a pastor’s faith."

So, Dodger fans:
What do we want for next season?
Diaz turned it on after he healed up. Scott was decent enough.
The offense was really bad. It pretty much killed our chance at the three-peat.
Sho needs a few months off.
@PrestonSprinkle @lukestamps
The Yankees are keeping Cashman and Boone. Wild.
Nothing against either one. Another team would be lucky to have them.
But the Yankees need fresh blood.
Re: the X discourse on ‘horror’
I suspect the Book of Revelation would qualify in some serious sense as ‘horror’
Because I don’t think the New Testament writers authored certain passages (1 Cor 14:34-35; 1 John 5:7-8; Mark 16:9-20), I won’t preach from them as authoritative Scripture.
Y’all know of other pastor-theologians who do or don’t do this?
Being up-front with the critical issues of the New Testament is a show of respect to your congregation (no matter how great or small).
If they don’t learn about the disputed authorship of Ephesians or the authenticity of 1 Cor 14:34-35 or the relationship between Acts and the Pauline letters from you…
They will learn about all of that from someone else.
I’m slow to preach on textually disputed passages/ verses from the Pulpit *without* addressing the issues.
Example: I touched on the authorship of the Psalms before my sermon series on the Psalms and Old Testament Theology.
Churches deserve to know how the textual sausage is made. It keeps us all honest about the inspired Word gifted to us.
