❄️FIRST FLAKES POSSIBLE❄️ If you throw away the 200 hour gfs snow maps and all the irrational hype around next weekend, the sensible way to communicate next week's potential system is some flakes/low accumulations in the high elevations of northern PA. Everywhere else it's likely to be too warm for anything to stick even if it were to snow a bit.

Yes, there is a chance for a low pressure system to bring mixed precipitation to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast by next weekend. But, there remains a lot of uncertainty. Keep apprised of the latest information at weather.gov

Could it snow in the Northeast late next week? Yes! A storm likely tracking near the coast could encounter enough cold air to produce wet snow. Especially because it's so early in the season and coastal seas are warm, inland areas have the highest chances for some accumulation.

❄️ COASTAL STORM NEXT WEEK... FIRST SHOT AT SNOW? Odds are increasing for a coastal system to emerge off the New Jersey and Long Island coastlines a week from today. With our cold shot trending more potent across model guidance, it's looking quite possible that many areas across our region will see their first snowfall of the season, but given the time of year, this system will likely be limited to higher elevations above 1500 feet. However, we'd like to note that if ridging out west continues to pump and move into a more favorable position, it could allow for a slower-moving and stronger system that could bring snowfall impacts to lower elevations, but this is something that's very low in confidence, especially given the time of year. We'll continue to monitor the latest. #pawx #njwx #nywx #snow #storm

October 29, 2012: Hurricane Sandy made landfall as a massive post-tropical Category 1 in New Jersey. Impacts in the Northeast were devastating, ranging from storm surge to inland flooding to fires that burned entire neighborhoods. 160 people were killed in the US. #wxhistory

Tomorrow, October 29th, marks 14 years since Post-Tropical Storm Sandy made landfall along the Jersey Shore. Sandy was a true generational storm with respect to coastal flooding along the New York and New Jersey Coasts and in the hardest hit areas recovery took years.
