Today, before upgrading PHP on my VPS, I made sure I had a recovery plan.
The PHP security release fixes two critical remote code execution vulnerabilities: CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619.
I wanted to patch my server, but first I needed a backup of my WordPress site.
Since I use WPVibe, I asked Claude to create a backup through the AI agent. Duplicator handled the backup, which was ready within a few minutes.
That gave me a recovery point before proceeding with server maintenance.
This is how I want to use AI in engineering: not just to generate code, but to simplify real operational work.
The lesson is simple. Before a critical update, prepare to recover, take a backup, verify it, apply the patch, and test the system.
A backup does not fix a vulnerability. It gives you a way back if something goes wrong.

11:42 PM: “I deleted everything.” A customer wiped their whole site folder.
Their backup was in Duplicator Cloud. 2 files, an empty server, no WordPress install needed.
Site was back before midnight.
Everyone deletes something eventually. Back up off the server.

Super glad we are using Levamo SiteShield although pretty sure we don't use Updraft on most sites at this point since we have Duplicator @duplicatorwp as part of AM family.
The security incidents are very stressful. Sending positive vibes to the Updraft team today ❤️
A plugin with 4M installs just became a backdoor into every site it touches. No patch. Updating won't help.
We've killed every UpdraftCentral key across customer sites and blocked all remote commands via SiteShield.

Knowing what you want your website to do is now most of the work.
