In HBO's Game of Thrones, Grey Worm becomes the commander of the Unsullied through a rare democratic choice granted to him by Daenerys Targaryen immediately after she liberates them from Astapor in Season 3.
Here is how his rise plays out on screen:
The Liberation of Astapor (Season 3, Episode 4 - "And Now His Watch Is Ended"): Daenerys acquires the Unsullied army from the slave masters (the Good Masters) using her adult dragon, Drogon, in a trade. Once the transaction is locked in, she orders Drogon to burn the main slave trader, Kraznys mo Nakloz, and commands the Unsullied to kill all slave masters in the city. After the slaughter, she gives the 8,000 elite soldiers their freedom, telling them they can leave as free men or fight for her as free soldiers. All 8,000 march with her.
Rejecting Slave Traditions: Unsullied soldiers were forced by the Good Masters to take degrading names (such as Grey Worm, White Rat, or Vermin) drawn randomly from a bucket every day to strip them of their human identity and remind them of their status as property.
The Election of a Commander (Season 3, Episode 5 - "Kissed by Fire"): Wanting a leader chosen by trust rather than forced rank, Daenerys tells the army to elect their own commander. The soldiers unanimously choose Grey Worm.
Reclaiming His Name: When Daenerys tells him to shed his slave name and pick a birth name or a proud new name, he chooses to keep "Grey Worm." He explains that his previous name was the one he bore on the day Daenerys Targaryen freed him, transforming a symbol of shame into a mark of pride and personal salvation.
Through this election, Grey Worm evolves from an anonymous, castrated slave soldier into Daenerys's most loyal general, trusted advisor, and the undisputed leader of her military vanguard throughout her conquest of Essos and Westeros

My concern with Avengers: Doomsday is that bringing back familiar heroes could become more important than giving them something meaningful to do.
Nostalgia is powerful. Seeing beloved characters return can make an audience emotional before the story has even begun.
But that emotion will not last if the characters exist only to generate reactions.
Doctor Doom needs to force the Avengers into decisions that reveal who they have become, not simply give them another reason to stand together for a final battle.
The best crossover is not the one with the most recognizable faces. It is the one where every character matters to the outcome.

My girlfriend asked me what I would do if she cheated on me.
