A crypto holder in France scared off kidnappers by firing a Glock from his window. A court just sentenced him to 30 months in prison.
The case turns on where the attackers were when he pulled the trigger.
The facts, per French press reports:
• The attempted kidnapping happened at La Roche-sur-Yon, in Vendée, on 31 October 2026
• The victim, a 23-year-old identified as Ayman R., fired from a window. He reportedly said he did it out of panic
• The attackers fled without taking him and left behind a vehicle reported as stolen
• Prosecutors first opened an attempted murder investigation and police arrested him
• The sentence is 30 months in prison, plus a 15-year ban on carrying a weapon
Prosecutors called the shot revenge, not self-defense, because the attackers were already leaving. French law requires a response proportionate to an immediate threat, and prosecutors argued that once the attackers were running, there was none.
France has been hit by a wave of crypto kidnappings, and in April 2026 prosecutors charged 88 people in connected cases. A man scared off his attackers, then got prison for the shot.

The number of businesses in Britain has fallen by 104,000 since 2025, taking the total down to 5.6m, government figures have revealed.
The main contributor to the decline was the loss of 157,000 self-employed people. It's not surprising that the self-employed are quitting in droves. The mad "Making Tax Difficult" requirement to force them to file tax returns five times a year has pushed out many.
The upcoming requirement to pay tax early will make cash flow very challenging and force many more self-employed out of the market.

While on routine patrol in Kraków, a Polish police officer suddenly found himself confronting a heavily armed gunman who had opened fire on innocent civilians. There was no warning, no time to prepare, and no guarantee he would survive.
Yet he and his fellow officers acted with extraordinary courage, stopping an attacker who could have claimed many more lives.
One officer was struck by three bullets and is now fighting for his life. His name has been shared as Kamil Kosin.
This is what genuine heroism looks like. An ordinary man facing extraordinary danger, putting the lives of complete strangers before his own.

Introducing Arete-27B: Qwen3.8-27B, post-trained to reinforce Western values.
Chinese open models are currently the strongest available, but they ship with state-aligned behavior in the weights. We built an 803-prompt eval across seven value categories, including freedom of expression, democracy, and privacy, and measured how often a model adopts China’s party line.
After fine-tuning on roughly 53 million tokens, Arete-27B's propaganda rate fell from 22% to 1%, in line with the Western models we tested. Its Hermes Bench score shows no significant performance tradeoffs.
The values in an open model are one fine-tune away.
