🇬🇧🇳🇴 UK to Deploy 1,500 Royal Marines as NATO Steps Up Arctic Posture
NATO ambassadors have agreed to strengthen the alliance’s presence in the Arctic amid rising tensions over Greenland, following President Donald Trump’s threats to seize the territory from Denmark. The discussions include proposals for expanded surveillance, increased defence spending, transfers of military equipment, and a broader programme of military exercises in the region.
As part of this shift, the United Kingdom will deploy 1,500 Royal Marines to Norway for year round operations under the Lunna House Agreement, signed in December 2025. The agreement also establishes a joint fleet of at least 13 anti submarine warfare frigates, intended to counter increased Russian submarine activity in the North Atlantic.
The White House said on Tuesday that Trump is “discussing a range of options” to acquire Greenland, including the possible use of military force. European leaders responded by warning that any US military action against a NATO ally would constitute a violation of the alliance’s core charter.

The Virginia-class "USS Virginia" snagged a halibut fishing net at the entrance to Malangen on Monday.
The 22-year-old fisherman became the main character in a "net against submarine" incident in the sea outside Senja and Kvaløya in Troms on Monday.
It was the 7,800-tonne nuclear-powered submarine USS "Virginia" that was on a quick visit to Malangen when the incident occurred.

The Russians follow American activity in Tromsø.
The information is posted on Telegram.
Here, reference is made to the Russian trawler "Bootes" which has engine trouble. They have a full overview of when US nuclear submarines arrive and depart from the quay at Grøtsund and which American warships are in the harbor in Tromsø.
They even correct the media on arrival and departure times for changing ships.
